Ok, cool thanks. So, I'm going to look out for 4.0 and make sure I can get the car inspected plus a test drive.

Shout out to WVRanger13 **This is not my truck**

This is primarily what I dream of....

Damn don't know why it's so small but...

Really appreciate all the input, also I was looking through the how to's and couldnt find any thing on installing a brush guard.

Are they reasonably easy to do? Or shouldi take it somewhere?

You might need to do some drilling at most, maybe some bumper trimming. It depends on the guard. On most of them, you can go to the manufacturer's website, they have a instruction manual download. I love checking those to estimate installation times.
I wouldn't hesitate to do one. But, at 16, I was doing a motor swap in a old nissan haha

all modern brushguards are a direct bolt on. Just find one that fits your trucks specs.
also, a 4.0 SOHC (2001+ Rangers) are a lot better than the OHV 2000- Rangers in performance. (sorry OHV guys)

i would look for a 4.0l v6 extended cab private sale truck.. most dealers tend to try and rip you a new one and you can get alot more for alot less from a private sale
oh and get a 5 speed!

is a 2001+ Ranger gonna last me if it will have mods such as lifts?that whole crank your torrison bar junk?bigger wheels?

do these trucks have issues with breaking down?replacing or adjusting lift shit?

I don't know I'm just really trying to make the better choice here, it's my first car.

I'm an avid fisherman and catch bait for local tackle shops and need something to tow a boat

a car won't cut it I'm a small ass kid and any other truck makes me look like a fly, I figured the smaller look a ranger has would fit me and my needs

Start with what you're looking for/gonna use it for.... Are you going to haul people? Haul stuff in the bed? Tow a trailer? Manual/auto? Different options cost money so if you start with what is most practical for your use and what's most important for you to have we can give you an idea what you might be looking at for truck alone.

Dealers will try and rip you a new one. It's all about how you work them.

On one end of the spectrum, my second truck was a 2000 Ranger that I picked up for $800. Had a few transmission problems, but still went down the road. Previous owner had the engine rebuild a few thousand miles before I picked it up. $2K for the trans rebuild and the truck would have been good as new. I wrecked it and sold it before I got a chance to rebuild the trans.

On the other end of the spectrum, my 03 cost me $7K. Truck was going for $10K, but when I picked it over with a fine toothed comb, I found a few minor problems with it that severely hindered the deal for me. After I brought it up with the dealer, they decided to knock a few K off the price because of what i'd have to replace. This doesn't always work, as some dealers will just give you the "Oh well, some other ignorant ******* will be dumb enough to buy it". The dealers are out to play games with you. No need to stress out, play the game back with them. Makes it much more fun.

Patience!!! I spent a few weeks going back and forth with the dealer on my first ranger and it saves me a few thousand dollars. Even if you love the truck and are excited always be willing to walk away. Rangers are a dime a dozen and if it's meant to be then it'll still be there tomorrow.

I'm definately going to be hauling junk, bait tanks, 3 of them, 70 gallons each as for a trailer goes I'll only be towing small boats not more than 20 feet.

I'd prefer an extended cab 4x4 automatic.
