Default Re: Improve Security?

Unplugging the electric door-lock controls is a good first step (didn't see it mentioned)

- #1 way to pop the Ranger (wedge door, press electric door lock button). (THERE IS NEXT-TO-NO REASON TO HAVE UNLOCK FUNCTION, Really!)
- Doors also unlock as you pull the inside door release (same as above, rod with a loop or 90* bend)<-- this is how Richard Simmons always escapes

Pulling the connection off of the back of the electric-door lock switch in the door panels may seem stupid, but a would-be theif will spend a lot of time trying to "hit the button" if he doesn't know it's unplugged. you could even use the button to trigger an alarm (hell, connect it to your headlights), so it'd only go off is some dumba55 actually hit the button! A VERY good step.

The inner handle is tough to get at without a lot of prep, so your theif will prolly give up an move on - like bars on a window -- just a little tougher can be "good enough" in a target-rich environment.

Alarms do work, but only when they won't false repeatedly, and where there are witnesses that'll give a 5hit

Viper is ok, I would also look into Autopage 2-way paging security systems... the one in my sig that I'm getting eventually can be bought around $100

A couple years ago, I searched vehicle theft, and the Ranger was near the bottom of the list, like 120 out of 125. Any thief would take whatever he/she wants.

Inexpensive things to do are do not pull in a spot straight. Turn the wheels, so it will be harder to drag or get in and go.

A lot of people trust The Club Steering Wheel Lock. It is about $40 and can be purchased at Wal-Mart.

I agree with not getting an alarm. They are highly ignored now.

I would be hesitant to do what you're thinking of just because what happens next time you get locked out of your own truck? Better have a good backup plan.....

Thanks - yeah I know...
That is the only time in my life I've done it.
There were other "things" going on at the time.
I was living out of town on an overtime job during the winter it was freezing dark rainy snowy I was mad at Laurel tired lonely dreading the day........

Oh, about the gun...
The Government doesn't think that I should have one - they are probably right...

I can be in a ranger in less then 5 second with out messing with the door at all truthfully. I have had to do it a couple times when my dog locked me out. If i was a skinny feller it would be even quicker.

yeah a security system can only do so much. more important is being aware of where you are. parking in certain areas, and leaving things exposed in your truck that people might be interested in.
