Default Ford Ranger EV

Hey has anyone on this site ever seen or driven one of these? I know they aren't in production anymore. But it would be pretty cool to have driven one. I don't think it was too practical but it's still a pretty cool idea. Haha. Just wondering. And the EV it the Eletric Ford Ranger.

""The Ford Ranger EV (Electric Vehicle) is a battery electric vehicle produced by Ford Motor Company. It was produced starting in the 1998 model year through 2002 and is no longer in production. It is built upon a light truck chassis used in the Ford Ranger. A few vehicles with lead-acid batteries were sold, but most units were leased for fleet use. A few persistent and interested private parties were able to obtain leases over a period of three to five years. All leases were terminated in 2003-04, and the vehicles were recalled""

had a 4-cylinder 59 hp 2.2 L Mazda/Perkins diesel. In 1985, a Mitsubishi-built 2.3 L turbo diesel with 86 hp replaced the Mazda diesel engine. The diesels were no longer an option after 1987. a few seem to be showing up now on ebay

Ah, the electric Ranger.
Believe it or not, they were actually quite common around here. Ford had at least one building off site from headquarters that I used to go to to check them out. There's were at least a dozen there at any given time. Plus I'd see them driving around town.
According the quote Bear posted, and really any web site you can research the Ranger EV at, they say they started selling them in 1998. True, but I've seen them with my own eyes as far back as 1995. That's one of the benefits of living in Fords backyard.

What's funny about it is you always hear people saying they want diesel Rangers. Many people don't realize Ford has already done it.
