Don't bother arguing with the guy, he has no idea of what he's talking about. I say aftermarket is better quality, he says aftermarket are chinese parts, calls me names, and then he pulls this lil gem of a post:

I couldn't convince you that motorcraft is superior, because its a case by case thing; motorcraft is a re-brander.

I prefer buying from known companies, than paying a premium for a car manufacturer logo.

Most of the time, it's a lot cheaper to buy aftermarket, and get better quality.
Not true all the time. Like STL said sometimes it is best to put the part in that the truck was engineered with. For GM vehicles this is true 90% of the time. I used to have a 99 two door Tahoe. The fuel pump went out once and I put an aftermarket one on it. Two weeks later the pump bites the dust. The next one I put in was an AC Delco and it lasted. Some parts for Fords are the same way. Which is why I generally stick with Motorcraft. After market is not always better.

I think this is true for the most part, but not all the time.

Last i heard, Motorcraft does not produce parts, they buy them to their own specifications. The minimal the quality, the cheaper they will pay the orders, and then they slap on a motorcraft emblem and mark the shit up of that price.

Ford uses cheap plastic (yes, a lot of manufacturers do, i'm making a point, endulge me) instead of leather for interiors, that cuts costs. They do the same with all other parts, that's how they make profits and stay in business. There aren't bad parts per say, just parts that'll be "good enough" to do the job. People think motorcraft parts are better because there's a ford logo, thus the "idiot add-on tax".

Now, while Ford enjoys the fan tax from people who haven't bothered to do their research, companies who actually make the parts have to re-invent themselves year after year and improve, to get their share of the market.

That's why you have plain spark plugs from motorcraft, or xp laser iridium gold platinum rapidfire xtreme powersport industrial spark plugs from the competition that'll kick the ass of any oem specs, at a lower cost.

Btw, your "ac delco" fuel pump might've been a Delphi pump.

I need another beer.

I will keep it simple for you Get a good battery........the recommended oil filter=Motorcraft or anything but fram. spark-plugs=Motor-craft or autolite

You're such a tool, even after editing your post.

Thanks for proving my point again, even though you have no idea what it is.

Enjoy your chinese parts, at a "Made in US" price.

after spending 5 years at my old job making parts for Visteon (fords major parts supplier) i have first hand experience of the quality controls ford puts on there suppliers. they are extremely strict and even though they arent making the part they have there hand in the process all the way down the line. ford has alot at stake when using parts made by there suppliers and they dont accept junk. I use motorcraft for most of my major repair parts because if know even though they may not be made by ford they are made to exacting specifications to meet fords strict quality standards.

The least you could do when you argue a point in a forum, is to read what others have to say, don't be such a jacka$$ that you'd think you automatically hold the truth. You still have much to learn, i know i do, and i did in here.

If you can't handle arguments, may i suggest posting in a blog and turning replies off.

BUT

I never said motorcraft sold bad parts. I said why not cut the middle man, and buy better parts for the same amount or less. If those companies can make parts for ford, why couldn't they make them once the ford emblem is off?

I never make the same mistake twice........

*I run autolites DP's now $3.50 each

if you want to have a serious discussion I am all for that......lets say we need a ICM for a 1994 2.3 ranger....the ICM is a common failure on these trucks. the heat of the engine does a number on them....what product would you recommend?......

I think you should do what works best for you!

Agree: In my 08 3.0L V6 Ext. Cab Ranger XLT; 47,000 miles I predominately use Shell Gas and Valvoline Oil. I swear it makes my truck run better (less sluggish, etc.)

I run Motorcraft batteries because I just replaced the pair of batteries in my 97 powerstroke a year ago.

Answer: For original equipment Motorcraft is pretty good. My family buys only Fords, and up until this week our original batteries never failed under 4 or 5 years old. We had one that lasted almost 10 years! My mom's 03' Taurus just needed a battery replacement in Nov., and I was shocked that my original battery went dead this past week. It showed no signs of wear and was even tested by Ford last month when I took the vehicle in for a recall. But, due to price and the fact that I was already at the mall by Wal-Mart, plus it was raining, and I needed to be on my way, I took a chance and replaced it with a cheap 2 year $70 battery. Everything is a crap-shoot, and parts wear out over time. I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

I buy aftermarket most of the time unless they are not available anywhere other than the dealer. There are some things that you are better off going OEM with. Power steering pumps are an example. The aftermarket power steering pump whined just as bad if not louder than the pump I replaced. I got a Ford rebuilt pump and it was much, much quieter. Sure, any steering pump you buy is going to whine but one shouldn't be able to hear it a block away.

I just had to replace my original motorcraft battery after it went dead. Its been in my truck for eight years, i'd say there batteries are pretty good. It also depends on how you treat them. If you keep running them down by playing your speakers when the truck is off then it is not good for them and they probably wont last as long.
