part brand preference
can someone explain why exactly, so many people are die-hard motorcraft brand fans? personally i have had nothing but bad experience dealing with motorcraft. the most confusing instances are batterys, filters and spark plugs; if you can convince me with sound logic that motorcraft is THE brand to use in a ranger, i will convert.

Because that is what the engine and truck were engineered with.

There's a lot of companies out there, and some are better than others at what they do.
I couldn't convince you that motorcraft is superior, because its a case by case thing; motorcraft is a re-brander.
I prefer buying from known companies, than paying a premium for a car manufacturer logo.
Most of the time, it's a lot cheaper to buy aftermarket, and get better quality.

just buy a good battery there are a lot of them, however if you are saying that you had bad experiences with motorcraft oil and fuel filters and motorcraft spark-plugs and wires..................you are in a very small minroites..........it probably has to do with installing the products improperly.....

I reread your post.........what is so confusing.....I think most of these engines use the FL-400s oil filter and I think an autolite APP103 goes in the 3.0 and 4.0 and the APP-104 goes in the 2.5.........I think you need to keep researching until it "clicks"........

im not talking about problems with the products malfunctioning, personally i have never bought them because of my experience with the company. motorcraft often will not recognize their own part numbers when you attempt to cross reference them through their websight, and as was stated previously, you can often purchase parts from other companies that are better quality, as well as cheaper. what confuses me is why people think that a motorcraft sparkplug is better than an autolite, champion, bosch, or ngk

Re: part brand preference
I tend to speculate that since both plugs and plug wires have a resistance value, that mixing different brands of plugs and wires produces an incorrect resistance.
Either that or Motorcraft has a specific part number for each application so that the plugs are pregapped correctly where other brands tend to offer plugs for wider applications and the plugs get installed under the assumption that they are pregapped when they aren't.

Actually, a motorcraft sparkplug is an autolite sparkplug.

Re: part brand preference
i use amsoil, e3 plugs and can tell a difference. i used to use motorcraft, after i became a dealer of amsoil i tried it and i can tell i made a little difference. i usually buy aftermarket, bigger and better rather than keep it stock

motorcraft is a re-brander. I think they used to own autolite before, but now it's owned by honeywell.
they just order spark plugs to their specifications, and re-brand them.
you're better off buying autolite, since manufacturers love to cut down on spendings, quality is usually a bit inferior.

then why do so many people swear by motorcraft plugs? or any other motorcraft parts?

Re: part brand preference
Because if my truck has made it 8 years without any problems using Motorcraft parts, why mess with what works?

Re: part brand preference
I run Motorcraft batteries because I just replaced the pair of batteries in my 97 powerstroke a year ago. And it sits a lot, and the batteries worked great up until last winter. Also, they had a higher CCA than others, they fit perfectly in my truck and were cheaper than Interstates.
A while back, I had a Dodge cummins work truck, replaced the batteries with ones from NAPA, the best they had, and they didn't fit right, and went bad in three years.
I run Motorcraft oil filers including transmission filters in all my fords, including my race cars. They seem to work, and I don't like fram.
I run Motorcraft oil in my powerstroke only because the injectors also use the oil, so I use what Ford tells me to. Quakerstate in the other trucks and one race car, Brad-Penn in the other.
Motorcraft plugs are great, but I'll run them, Autolites or NGK, whatevers availible and the cheapest.

Because people can be influenced into believing anything.
1- Replace original tags with motorcraft brand.
2- Inflate pricing to reflect the "quality" linked to the brand.
3- ??
4- Profit.
