Because every asshat I knew in college had a Dodge Cummins and thought they knew everything about diesel, even though they don't! Jp ok kind of kidding.

The point would be a vehicle you are proud of, that you built yourself. Sure you could BUY a fullsize tow truck, but it'd be way more bad ass to BUILD your little tow truck lol Although, for safety's sake, it really is a better idea to buy a fullsize for towing large items. I want a diesel for longevity, mileage, and well that little clack of a diesel makes me....next comment has been censored to protect the innocent minded in us all....

Do you have in the states regular and premium diesel as in here?
I would of sold my ranger and bought a 3/4 ton 4x4 with the 5.9 powerplant.

it would be nice to have a diesel in the ranger -but you will pay alot for the conversion and you might have to beef up the front 4bt weigh about 740lbs it might be cheaper to get a older diesel 3/4.

yeah... ive towed a couple cars on a carhauler with my stock 3.0L... rangers are very capable trucks.. just very underpowered if you ask me. Throw a cummins in it and now youve got a truck that not only could tow what you need it to but get excellent mileage..

I towed a 6x12 ft trailer from Washington state to Tennessee, with the truck and trailer pretty much full to the brim. These trucks do just fine towing, I had more issues with the seats being uncomfortable for that trip then the towing.

The only car worse than a saturn is a Geo metro my aun has gone through 2 in 15 years with religeous maintenance.
I've seen a V8 in a Geo lol, and if you fabricate it right, you shouldn't have any issues with the body coming off

So yes the fuel is expensive, But you may get pretty decent mpg. =]
Now, I have gone back and forth with this before, and I had the opportunity to get a DD diesel pickup, but I didn't.

The reason is because of maintenance costs. It costs me under $50 to change the oil in my gasser. If something happens to the engine, I can go and find another one for well under $2500. A Diesel, however, costs a lot to maintain, and if the engine goes kaput, you're looking at at least $3500 for a well used diesel. Yeah, you can pull good MPG's out of a diesel, but after all is said and done, if you're only going from point A to point B and not use it to pull stuff, you're going to be better off with a gasser. Just my .02

Don't think I would consider a gas/diesel swap but the fact we don't do "clean turbo diesel" engines in this country in pickups and SUVs is simply a mistake. I have a VW Touareg TDI and the thing is just amazing. Rated 18/25 I consistently get better than 20/27 in a 5500lb. SUV and I don't drive conservatively. In a small truck you'd be like 23/30 easy and done right it would put out less emissions than a gasser. Plus the thing scoots with all that torque. Jeep tried it but had the gears wrong. I am sold on the technology.
