Im 16 and am looking to get a ranger. I really like the older style 1992 or older. (box style). I definately like to lift it. 4x4 would be great. Im basically looking for a dependable ranger 4x4. I have about $4000 right now. Whats a good year? Any thing to watch out for on the older style rangers? (1992 and older). Some things to stay away from? Tips and suggestions would be great! thanks! (and the trucks in Ohio are pretty rotted)

hey welcome to the forums. You might want to start looking around on craigslist. Go from there. Keep an eye out around and look in Green sheets and car advertisments. Alot of dealers will sometimes get a trade in ranger and will just want it gone so they sell it for cheap!

Over here, for 4000$ you can easily get a clean 2000-1 Ranger.

I don't know the older models, heck i don't know much about rangers other than what i've learned from people here. The only suggestion i can give ya is when you find one you like, don't buy it before it has gone through a full inspection.

I don't think the ranger had a bad year, my neighbor had a 1987 and it was a tank.

Shop around, try to steer clear of dealers. It took me a while to find the one I wanted to check craiglslist, ebay and local auto shopper magazines if they have them for your area. Make sure you have someone mechanically inclined go over the vehicle before you buy it

yes i might start going to a few auctions to find a ranger. Here in Ohio they get pretty rusty and driven.
