I'll jump ship and buy a Toyota truck if the Ranger is gone forever..

Who am I kidding. I'll never be able to afford a new truck anyway. I'll be 75yo and still piecing together these old junk Rangers. I'll have parts trucks as far as the eye can see. I've already got 3 BII's and one Ranger for parts. lol

Default Re: Save the Ranger

To survive, the only real changes the ranger needed were aesthetic ones. The interior of the ranger is so dated the style looks 20 years old, it's insane. The exterior could also use some minor aesthetic changes, like the mazda B series trucks - just some subtle styling to make it look more fun and appealing instead of looking like a damn fleet truck lol. It was already the most fuel efficient gas truck in the U.S. and had a great reputation for reliability and being very affordable to own so not much room to improve there, BUT they could have done one big thing...

Make the Ecoboost engines available in the Ranger!

The 2.0 EB engine has almost 100 more HP than the 2.3 duratec (and more than 100 torque). Imagine how awesome that would be in a single cab! I'm not sure if the V6s would work with the Ranger (maybe too much power, or not enough room probably), but a Ranger with 350-365 sounds really appealing to me. Not to mention that these engines would also make them even more fuel efficient.

The decision probably came down to money: Ford will make more money shoving out giant F series trucks than tinkering with the ranger trying to figure out how to sell more of them.

Ford needs to take a serious look at what the aftermarket is doing with their products and build something from the factory that people are doing on their own. That's how you sell trucks. Build them the way that people want them.

Ford's not competing with anyone anymore. They're just going through the motions.

True. They would just assume that we would end up buying whatever they produced/substituted in it's place.

If you try and build a 2010 on the ford website, limited slip is not an option.. odd.

But I'm not sure what's up with buddy and his "re-badged" 10's lol.. I'll be sure to post up plenty of pics showing otherwise when my truck comes in

If Ford wants to cease production of the Ranger, then rest assured they have a solid reason for doing it. A few people on an internet forum mean nothing to them, especially when those few people have no idea why it is happening in the first place. Don't waste your energy.

Ford deleted the limited slip option on 2010 Rangers, presumable because Traction Control became standard. I guess that enough people complained (fleet buyers?) because the LS is back on the option list for 2011 model year.

^^^Agree. Your opinions alone are not going to change the direction of a plant closing. Remember that production changeover for a new model year usually happens in July/August and we're only a few months away. That's like tomorrow in corporate planning for an automotive manufacturer.

On the other hand, a MAJOR increase in fuel prices MIGHT make Ford take another look. That's what happened the last time the death of the Ranger got postponed. Right now, gasoline prices are moving toward those high levels again. Still, I seriously doubt that even that would do it.

No limited slip in the 10's... I remember looking to buy one last year and it wasn't offered.. One of the main reasons I didn't get one. Maybe the dealership you were dealing with was mistaken?

You couldn't get a LS as a factory option but the confusion might be caused by someone who bought an 2010 with a dealer installed LS which is available anytime.

Soon as Ford stops making Rangers is the day I buy a Mustang. I do not like those huge F150's and I will for sure stay with Ford so it looks like I will be getting a Mustang when they stop making Rangers.

I have a new 2011 Ranger FX4 and plan on holding on to it for 10 years. I'm betting that before those 10 years are up, Ford will have a new smaller (or mid sized) truck in their fleet. Who knows....it might be called a Ranger.
