RANGER must have Items!
so I just purchased a 2000 ford ranger xlt flare-side and its my first truck so I was wondering from people with there experience what is some must have first purchases for the truck, and what should I steer clear of? Items like bed-liners, grill guards, rims, tonneau covers, etc. So if you can give me some must haves and tell me what stuff isn't worth paying for, plus if you can add the brand of the item with there cost and where to find it,Much appreciated!

Re: RANGER must have Items!
I bought a 2000 Ranger 8 years ago and just replaced it with a 2004. There are no "Must Have's". Vehicles with $$$ aftermarket parts arent customized they are just vehicles with $$$ aftermarket parts. "Hey! Look what I bought!"
I just jerked the slick-as-snot bed liner out of the '04. Protect the bed from what? For who? Had a decent do-it-yourself spray-on underneath. Next to go are the stick-on smoke sun shades over the side glass. After that the lift kit. Those chunks of iron will work good to keep the bed liner from blowing away until somebody hauls it off.
I, on the other hand have, require a few 'must have's' which I added right away and have been delighed with. Keyless entry, cruise, seat heat, homemade console storage tray. The '04 it tricked out with most luxury items but I'm adding leather heated seats because I deserve 'em. Top of bed was damaged from a tool box installation so I got aluminum deck plate caps for the bed sides and tailgate edge. Truck is silver so they don't look too gaudy.

The thick oem plastic bedliner was a good buy for me, as i helped my family hauling some construction stuff, plus i will be getting into some myself. If i had used spray, it would have scratched off easily.
My must haves are:
a/c + electric windows (Ok those two are harder to get when used)
tinted windows
remote starter with alarm
beefier more aggressive tires for all seasons driving
tailgate lock + tailgate handle lock (no one's stealing mine)
hitch
cd player
bed liner (of course lol)
the rest is optional icing on the cake imo

Re: RANGER must have Items!
K&N air filter, using good oil filters, servicing trans as recommended by ford
since u live in Ill' (my aunt lives in Aurora) I recommend waxing with Meguiars tech wax 2.0 or Ultimate... waxing everything glass, chrome, paint, wheels, head lights, tail lights.. Also treating plastic cladding like mirrors, bumper valance, rear bumper top, mud flaps, inner fenders, even tires with a good "water based" tire shine.. this will help protect/prolong the beauty of your ride... 3M aerosol bed liner works great for under coating any exposed steel (frame, a-arms, rear diff')
all this stuff can be found at local automotive store, if you look at my pics can you tell my truck is 11yrs old? I treat and maintain all these steps to make my ride look new

Re: RANGER must have Items!
Must haves for me were upgraded stereo for iPod/mp3 hook up. I went to aftermarket speakers as well, but was always impressed by the OEM speakers in the Ranger.
Spray in liner. I was going for the lifted side of things so wider wheels and beefier tires. Other than that, nothing really must have. But I liked having my CB/PA and HID off road lighting and aftermarket exhaust.

Line-x warranty...if it gets chipped or shows paint, get a touch up. I didn't like the plastic because it became super slick when it was least bit damp outside.

Re: RANGER must have Items!
MUST HAVES on a ranger is really all about what you want in the final look of your truck, the only problem is once you start modding, you don't wanna stop. Idk your cashflow or money available to you, but my recommendation is to start off small and work your way to the bigger things.
I started out with power locks and window tint, I already have my body lift just don't have it put in yet. next is tires and rims. and depending one what look you want that can be a fairly pricey ordeal. I also have many other plans that are down the road such as new gears, power windows, new sound system. all of which are fairly expensive. Maybe throw in Alon's maglite holder or one of buggman's limitless LED mods or some Mustang dome lights (<<Maybe STL will throw in the links for me since i'm posting on my ipod). I have the maglite holder from alon and a LED third brake light from buggman. Ask TurdFx4, Clinton and a few others for parts, they go to junk yards a lot. So in the end, it's all up to you. Post some more pics of your truck to help us with our suggestions.
