Default Stupid question, maybe ?

I was waiting at a drive thru that's kinda of slanted and when i let off the brakes it started going backwards like a standard would but I have an automatic tranny .. I have a 1989 mustang and a 1997 T-Bird both of them RWD automatic cars and never experienced this before. I'm a new to truck and was wondering if I was missing something?

So it just rolled back as if in neutral..as opposed to being powered backwards? And still moved forward with gas. Is fine I would think. You didn't say what year it is. The Mustang and T-bird automatic transmissions would be different than a fairly new Rangers. Maybe the newer designs also achieve a better no drive/neutral state at idle?

My truck does the same exact thing if on a hill. Some spots if it is not slanted enough it will not roll at all if I take my foot off the brake.

Sometimes if on a good incline I like to let it roll. Especially if someone is right on my butt. I love the look on their face and enjoy them honking
