Default Is this estimate from GoodYear ridiculous?

I've been hearing a loud knocking noise underneath the truck for a few months now. I knew it was the ball joints, so I took it in. I get all of my repairs done at Gemini GoodYear. So I took it in this morning, and of course, they found tons of other things wrong and wanted to fix all kinds of things. I'm a college student living in an apartment, and I don't even want to attempt to do any of this by myself. I'm not even close to a mechanical expert, so I figured I'd ask you guys what you thought of this. Is this total BS?

All costs include labor.

Upper Ball joints, (both sides), - $379.40
Lower Ball joints, (both sides), - $420.42
Alighment - (after ball joints), - $89.95

Then here's the other stuff..labor included.

My left rear axle seal is leaking. 119.95 to fix that.
They want to clean and adjust my rear breaks. 45.00
Cooling system flush. They said mine needs it. 119.95
Brake Fluid Service. - 99.95
Thermostat Housing - 268.95

I don't even know what a thermostat housing is.
My engine has NEVER even came close to overheating, so I don't know about the coolant flush. I live in Louisiana, and just got out of a 90 degree summer..
I had my breaks completely redone in May, so I dunno if they need cleaning.

So this comes to a grand total of 1753.52
Yeah, I almost had a heart attack.

So, which of these do you think I don't need?
All I thought I needed was the ball joints and alignment..but that seems a little high too.

Any and all 2 cents is appreciated..

Did you give them approval to look over the truck?

They are bad about that. I took my truck in for tiers and they came up with $700 of "work" my 2008 ranger need. I will never go back.

I have been to places like that. You go for one thing and they say we cant do the work til this other stuff is done. Tell them to stick it up their asses. Go to a trusted private shop, Get the parts yourself and ask them to put them in. Ball joints should be done first and alignment. That quote is a bunch of shit. A shop like that took advantage of my sick father saying his calipers could go tomorrow or a few years and scared him bad enough to have them put them on for over 1k and his truck is an 05

bring it somewhere else for a second opinion but dont mention anything to them about what the other shop suggested and see if they come up with the same problems, id bet they dont. ive found out that some shops are really good at coming up with things to fix that dont need to be. i brought my 1996 ranger in get an estimate to have an exhaust system made for it and when the tech put it on the lift he called me back into the shop. he proceeded to show me how "bad" my balljoints and tie rods were, i sat and listened to his speech and when he was done i politely pointed out to him that i had just done all 4 balljoints and both tie rod ends just a month before. plus they wanted $500 for an exhaust system, needless to say i didnt have them do any work for me. lol

If I were you I would have them fix what YOU asked them to fix. Keep their estimate and like stated above, get a second opinion. I am going through some shit with GY right now. My car had a P/S leak fixed last March. I noticed in December that it was leaking again. Took it in to have it "fixed" for free, drove it home and it has not been driven since. (summer car) Today I noticed that P/S fluid is leaking again. I called them up, told them that it's leaking again, and that the car is away for the winter. They told me to bring it in when its back on the road again.

Yeah, I'm thinking a second opinion is a definite here.
I went there today for an oil change, and told them to check it out while they had the truck up. 2 hours later, they tell me this.

I know the ball joints definitely need to be done, but don't you think I could survive without the other stuff, like the flushes and "cleaning".

Yeah the flushes and cleanings can be done on your own. I despise people that pull that kind of crap.

Can the 2-3 years be translated into a certain amount of miles? Or is that due to the fact that the same fluid sits in there for years at a time. I rolled 78,000 miles today, and to my knowledge, no flushes have been done. But I tihnk I could handle that, or at least hold off for a while.

I've had almost all of this stuff done recently, except the ball joints which seem to be the most expensive so I'm sorry if this isn't helpful, but this is what I paid in CA for that stuff.

Alignment: $49.95 at Pep Boys

Cleaned and adjusted my rear brakes: $20 at a Brake Masters after a brake check and they noticed that my emergency brake cable wasn't connected and my brakes needed an adjustment so bad I was hitting the floor when braking.

Left rear axle seal: $115 at a local shop.

Cooling System flush: $30 and half an hour to do it myself.

Brake Fluid Service: Don't let them convince you to do that. My truck is 11 years old and been half submerged in water and the water content in my brake fluid is still next to nothing after testing it with one of those strips you can buy. Its a hydraulic system and can go a long time without being replaced.

Thermostat Housing? WTF? They're trying to charge you close to 300 bucks for something that just protects the thermostat? Ask them why they feel it needs to be replaced, if there's a crack or something in it I guess it might be time to replace it, but I'd definitely get a second opinion.

i dont know, people say to flush it but i just flushed mine for the first time ever this summer and the coolant still tested out perfect, was still just as green as the new stuff i put in it and the system was in great condition. truck is 10 years old with 90,000 on it. if youre short on cash, get the BJ's and the axle seal done and alignment and wait to do the rest later.
