Myth. At least thats what a guy at our international auto show from ford says. He said that the 2010 Ranger is a definite but they arent sure if they will do a overhaul on it and possible word of a newer ranger with I4, V6, and V8 capabilities. If you ask me, it would be the dumbest thing in the world to kill the Ranger.

There's been discussion on whether or not they're going to keep it until 2012. So it'll be here fore sure through 2011.

theres been so much speculation here but with little or no answers
i know the ranger is good till 2011 but then they maybe re-design it with a new name maybe
but killiung it would be sooo stupid and i highly doubt that ford would do that

Hey all, a friend of mine said that the Ranger platform is gone. It is being replaced by the F100 I am pretty sure he said it is supposed to launch summer 2010. Basically it is a much nicer platform across the board, V8 is back and well something about the 4cyl. don't recall off hand I was thinking it was to be scrapped but I also remember something about turbo. HTH
Friend is extremely reliable.
P.S. I see the 4dr. this applies to domestic market only.

Oh, yea nearly forgot it's supposed to offer crew cab. Supposed to be around the size of the toyota small truck, don't for the life of me know the name.

No not really, He's a retired motor head friend of mine who has a lot of ties within Ford.
He told me about the release of the transit in the US about 4 years ago when I was working up plans for expanding my Co. and so on. The information is first hand and can be trusted. The Ranger platform is gone, The F100 is supposed to be a completely different frame and so on. Basically it'll will be a one off of the F150, sharing may of the same options. HTH

wont that effectively kill the compact truck market? i mean right now its only the ranger and b-series, i dont see why ford would want to leave a market that it has complete control over to enter a market where the mid size trucks like tacoma already have a good foothold. i would update the ranger and keep it a compact truck but thats just me

It seems like there's always conflicting rumors, even from people within Ford.
Who knows....

I talked a bit with said friend today(Mr, anonymous) it has something to do with streamlining production costs and keeping a good foothold on the competition. I learned some interesting things about the Rangers in our talk, he said that the "Ranger" used to be a option package, not a name, like Jeep Sahara(Wrangler). He stated that there where alot of ideas about options for the platform. To give you an idea 5 cabs, wait for it, wait for it, including a wait for it, a bronco cab. When I asked about the retention of the current Ranger platform he said, it is done, for sure. They are dropping the frame, something to do with the CSUV's using a multi part subframe, and the Ranger's frame is specific and limited. The ranger name is from what he knows going to be an option again. From what I gather it is going to be one heck of an upgrade, but I guess it all depends on the pricetag IMO.
Also comment was made that the tacoma is not viewed as a separate class, but a more capable competetor.

i pretty sure it would kill the "sub-compact" market as teh ranger/b-series are the only ones left as all other trucks have migrated to the compact category due to their increases size (example: tacoma)
i think it would be nice if the ranger grew a bit in size ( i would love an extended cab ranger with a 7 ft box instead of the 6 ft one)

You may want to wait if you get to the point it seems the F100 will be pretty sharp.

See, this is confusing...
Last I heard, the F-100 project, or at least the name, was scrapped.

The Ranger name was originally a package for the F-series.
