How much offroad can my stock ranger handle?
Hi all, I'm still pretty new to the site, so forgive me if I posted this in the wrong area.
Anyways, I bought my first vehicle (I'm 17, I paid 7,000 for it, all MY cash, mommy and daddy did NOT pay for it and I had to have straight A's to be able to buy it, so please please don't call me spoiled, it sucks hearing that. K done ranting..) which happens to be a lovely 2003 Edge 2wd w/ 3.0L V6 (manual). I was wondering, what about can it handle offroad for now? It is completely stock, although the owner before me put on larger tires (haven't measured, if you need it ask ).
When I go offroading, it's usually light, just driving through mud / driving down bumpy-ass dirt roads (stuff like my profile pic). I've been under the assumption that this is okay for my truck, I don't see why not... but what more can it do without risking damage / excessive wear?
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Re: How much offroad can my stock ranger handle?
Thats probably something only you can determine by how you drive it and on what terrain you are on

Drive it where you want and when you get the feeling (this is going to be bad) it probably is. you know hold my beer and watch this kind of thing. Look before you leap and you should be fine.

Re: How much offroad can my stock ranger handle?
just be careful because although it may be fun off roading, doing so can break a lot of stuff and if your truck is a daily driver you might not want to take that risk

Re: How much offroad can my stock ranger handle?
Good point Brodie_laj, fortunately my mom has a car that I usually can borrow.
Clinton - I drive very cautiously when I'm offroading, I have good experience with a stick shift, I don't really know how to describe it but it's mainly just running through mud up to 3/4 the heigh of my tires, or driving ~15-20 mph down dirt roads, I guess this stupid little video of me describes it best:

Re: How much offroad can my stock ranger handle?
I'm curious as to why you were explaining about paying for your truck. If someone calls you spoiled, who cares? My parents bought me my Ranger brand new for me in 2000. I was 33 at the time. I asked why and my dad said it was a one time gift, so they didn't have to go into a higher tax bracket and would actually be taxed more than the truck cost, over their retirement years.

Re: How much offroad can my stock ranger handle?
machine090767 - I live near Laguna Beach. I live in a nice house and my parents drive German luxury cars ('06 Benz E350 for mom and Audi V8 A6 Quattro '06 for pops in case you were wondering ), I get called spoiled all the time but I hate living with that label spread across my forehead, so I feel the need to explain that I am not and I work hard for what I get, that way I can avoid it. I guess it's an insecurity I have, but whatever, you are definitely right, who cares? We all have our quirks
About the video ... hmm, I thought that would work. Working on the privacy settings... K should work now?
..Edit.. FB only lets you display photos/vids to your friends if you're under 18... lame. Youtube time.
...btw, if you play the guitar / like metal, you should check out my other vids

What he said, I've done a crap ton of beating on mine off road and she's still kickin'. Good for you paying for your own rig. I understand the spoiled thing, as most of my friends live below what my Father made. I paid for every vehicle I've ever owned. My first truck was 4 years old when I bought it, so it wasn't the cheapest truck, but I paid for it. Also you come over to my parents house that I grew up in, yeah it's huge. But I am not rich, I just got the privelege to live there with my parents.

Glad to hear you were privileged to live there but you also had real-world experience. It's sad to see the kids here, they all drive lifted trucks with big shiny rims, or lowered BMW's and Audi's that daddy bought. Of course, none of them can drive a stick or handle those expensive cars. Oh well, not my problem, I don't judge them but I won't lie, it's damn hard not to.
Anyways, I really hope this thread doesn't blow up into a flame war because of this stuff hahah, although it is nice to discuss now and then
Thanks for the replies everyone, I guess I will take away from this that I'll enjoy my Ranger and enjoy offroading on whatever those tires will go over.

Lol Welcome to the forum. I've done more at 23 then most people twice my age. I was taught early the power of a dollar. I have a bachelors degree and a damn good job to show for it. I own four cars, all my own. That is all I need right now in life, and I did it all myself. Yeah I got a loan from Dad, but I pay him back every month. If it goes vroom I can drive it too!

Re: How much offroad can my stock ranger handle?
Mine was free too, aunt and uncle wanted to get a 2nd Mini Cooper and didn't know what to do with the Ranger so my mom said, "hey, Evan needs a vehicle" LOL The catch was they are in VA and I'm in WI, But we worked it out.
