Companies stopped making good batteries because they were lasting too long. They were not making enough money in the replacement market, so now they are shitty.
Same thing for appliances, electronics, cell phones, etc., etc.

My stock Motorcraft lasted almost 9 years, from January 2001 to December 2010. Just had to replace it during the last cold snap we had here.

I have a NAPA battery from '07. I would just leave it in there, but when I got my truck it had A LOT of acid built up on the it. I cleaned it off with a Pepsi and put axel grease on it. I like to use axel grease, because it stays. That grease for battery cables they sell at auto parts stores don't work worth shit.

My last truck , the battery was in there for over 10 years and is still going strong ( another year ) as I gave it to my nephew . Before that I have had vehicles with batteries in it for the same amount of time . I can't say for sure how long one will lasyt , but I have had very good luck with them . Not one type of favorite either . My 88 Blazer when I bought it had the battery replaced and i had 9 years on that one . My Ramcharger had the original Die Hard in it when I bought it used in 85 ( it was an 84 ) , and that lasted over 11 years .

I hear you as there have been batteries that go in a couple of years . A couple of my cars , had to be replaced around 5 or 6 years .

Just my opinion .....

Well I guess it isn't as uncommon as I thought. Its just that normally, in the other cars I had, i went through the batteries fairly quickly. And from a business standpoint, they make everything else to go out so quickly that I thought that batteries would be the same

I have a 2003 and was just informed that it is highly recommended that I replace it. I guess it has a 223 CCA rating and it should be 550. You would never know it when you start it though, turns over great. But it is 7+ years old now. I better do it quick, I live in MinneSNOWta!

The battery in my 94 is dead. It is a big (BIG) battery with 850 CCA. The previous owner was running a helluva sound systems through it. I need to get another battery. What is the original size? How much is the proper motorcraft battery? TIA

I think Ford recommends at least 570 CCA.

Well, I knew it couldn't last forever. The battery is finally showing signs of getting old. Its been colder these past couple days and the truck takes a little longer before the engine actually catches. I'm assuming the battery is the cause since I just had a new engine put in not more than 5k miles ago. Guess I'm heading to Costco tomorrow to get a new one.
