Default Throttle Sticking

Occasionally my throttle has been sticking. I'll be driving along in town and when I acclerate, the throttle sticks or something and the revs shoot violently high. I can barely push the brake hard enough and hold it enough to get my foot under the pedal and free the cable or whatever is sticking. This doesn't happen very often but it has happened about a dozen times over the last six months. It was just below zero this morning so I went to start the truck for my wife as it's her daily driver. I depressed the gas pedal twice and it was fine but the minute it started the pedal went all the way to the floor and I had to jump out of the truck and reach down and pull it up. What's going on? I'm afraid this is going to happen while my wife is driving and she's going to hit something. Any ideas?

Thanks fellas!

water/rust in the throttle cable line, you could try to shoot wd-40 down it but i would replace it, I would also clean the throttle body

wd-40 will dissolve any existing lubricant in the cable. you can buy lithium grease in an aerosol can. remove cable ball from throttle connection pull it out as much as you can and lube, while disconnected from engine side, go to pedal n do the same
NOTE: inspect the spring on the throttle body, maybe failing?
