Default Gas milage in a winter climate

so with winter driving, in your rangers, how do you guys fare?

engine/drive/diff ratio/tire size
how you startup ie.(turn key go, wait 15-30 secs on start then go, full warm up)
climate ie (lots o' snow, lil snow and freakin cold.. etc)
how you drive
gas milage normally and winter driving

4.0l / 4x4 / 4.10 / (265/75/16)
15-30 secs start and go
lows like 10f and gets snowey in buffalo, occasionally 25mph highway traveling
i drive fairlly conservative now but did go play in the snow a bit
got 14mpg and normally was getting 16-17 (15 if i drove spiritadly)

my mileage always drops off in the winter and its due to a few factors, winter grade gas, the use of 4wd and longer warm ups. i lose 2-3 MPG on average depending on conditions.

I notice loss as well. I let the truck warm up to full temp usually, there are times that I don't but I don't like doing that. Id say I get a good 15 in the winter.

Yep, since it's been getting colder I've noticed my ultragauge avg mpg going down about .1 a week at about 16.5 now. I expect about 15.5 will be my lowest

it makes sense why you burn more fuel in the winter.

colder air is denser, so given the same pressure and volume the number of oxygen molecules will be more. This is measured, and based on your fuel map and intake temperature and detected flow the pulsewidth is increased.

I don't drive my 2004 showtruck in the winter, only my DD 2003. It's got the 2.3 DOHC engine with an auto. I get ~25 average in the summer, and I've been getting 22 or 21 this winter.

I also let it warm up for about 15 minutes each morning.

To the contrary though you can get more timing advance with colder intake charges, which indeed helps mileage.

When I first start it up the choke takes the engine up to 1800+ rmp.
I warm up until tach drops down about 1100 rpm.

2.3 DOHC
Auto trans
2 WD
4.10 Diff
P225/70/R15

21.4 MPG average mostly city driving.

the choke? - it's not a carb engine.

I took a hit with mileage pretty much all at once because I put the taller/wider tires on and it got cold out. So I'm down to 13 mpg w/full warm-ups in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon. but I have (well... had) a 6-7 minute trip with a 2 mile up hill, so that doesnt help with mileage.

What you are saying does not make sense unless you are at greatly elevated altitudes

Snow will put a lot of strain on your truck.

Here in TN, I have a garage, I average about 19 so far this winter. I have 3.73s, auto and a 4.0 OHV. It's been around 25 so far. I start her and go.

In Montana I got about 10, because you had to let the thing warm up before you went anywhere! it would get about 40 below zero and my transmission would whine like a howler monkey till I put a pan heater in her. I would let her warm up a good 20 minutes if I didn't plug it in, then I had to start her and warm her up when I went to work overnight or I wasn't getting anywhere fast.
