Does $2500 sound reasonable for these repairs?
Hey guys I just dropped my truck off at the shop and the guy said hed fix all these problems for $2500...
1. Blown head gasket
2. broken tail light (bulb is fine, must be fuse or electrical problem)
3. bad clutch
4. slave cylinder gasket (claims he should also check master bc "the gasket had oil on it")
...If I remember anything elese ill be sure to post.
I drive an '89 2.9L v6 ranger with 130k miles.
Also, he said he can hook me up with some brand new firestone destination le tires for $375 more(my truck needs a wheel alignment anyways)
What do you think? Thanks

There's a used 1999 to 2001 white with some dents close to me for 1800.
Anyway don't buy tires without a wheel aligment first.

The wheel alignment comes free with the tires if i choose to get them. I would be game for buying a new truck but the thing is this is my first car and my parents are set on paying to get it fixed...im glad their paying for it but i just wanted to make sure the price is reasonable.

Re: Does $2500 sound reasonable for these repairs?
Oh! If they are paying for it then let them have it done.
If it was my money I would go a different route. The price seems a little high to me but I haven't had a vehicle worked on in years and don't know the going rate for labor nowdays.

Whoa! That is way too much for just replacing a head gasket in my book!

Re: Does $2500 sound reasonable for these repairs?
so hes replacing a head gasket and a clutch and some cheap like 5 minute fixes and he wants $2500 that seems kind of expensive.. we got my moms 4.6l (gotta be one of the more pain in the arse engines to work on) rebuilt for $3000 thats a total rebuild and a whole new bottom end of the engine..

Re: Does $2500 sound reasonable for these repairs?
I would talk your parents into spending the money on another ranger. For 2500 you can get a nice truck in the late '90's. your going to have over 5 grand into an '89 with a 2.9 v6. your can get a 4 banger 2.5 and get better mpg and it will be newer/nicer/updated.
Sell your parents on a newer truck having air bag(s) and that it is much safer.

Re: Does $2500 sound reasonable for these repairs?
This is amazingly absurd, THE PRICE is way to high, For that particular year and engine, it's not hard at all to redo the clutch, For that price you can have another motor swapped in with much lower miles, Remember if he replaces the top end your bottom end will soon go out, HE might as well rebuild the motor period, Tail light issues, get some parts cleaner spray and spray the connectors, they get corroded over time and it does not make for a good contact.
