Default And WHY is Ford canceling the Ranger?

Total sales numbers are in to the end of October, 2010 for Canada and the Ranger placed #18 (18,330 units) in the top 30, ahead of #19 Fusion, #24 Edge, #28 Accord and #30 Altima.

The #1 top selling vehicle in Canada was of course, the F150 with other trucks coming in at #4 Dodge Ram, #6 GMC Sierra, #7 Escape (well, maybe not a truck) and #8 Chevy Silverado.

The trucks from Toyota and Nissan didn't even make the list.

Go figure.

I think Ford is making a big mistake on letting the Ranger go. But only time will tell.

My guess is that theyre going to stop selling it for a few years, realize they made a mistake, and then bring it back even better than what it was... same thing they did with the Taurus.

It's for the same reason they ditched the F100 back in 1983.

Similar price, same fuel economy, lack of an update, etc.

History repeats itself. And once again, the smaller truck loses.

I personally think the F150 should rot below the earth. If I wanted to drive something as big as a house, i'd buy an RV.

make the Ranger just a bit bigger with more - sync system, built-in nav, ect.., lose the F150 that way you have the Ranger and if you need bigger the F250 is perfect and just a tad bigger then the current F150

If they gave me the Ranger in a crew cab, diesel with a manual tranny in a midsize platform, I'd be at the dealer now. I'd even take it over a Raptor. Although a Raptor version = badass to no end!!!

Needless to say GM, Toyota, and Nissan are going to dominate the small and midsize truck arena in the States and Canada. As well as Mahindra or however you spell it if they ever get it to the States. Ford is making a big mistake, and they will realize it. In today's economy it doesn't make a lot of sense for a lot of us to own large fullsize trucks, although I definately understand why people buy them. As a bigger person, 6 ft 3 and 230 lbs I love the interior space in fullsizes, but I really just have no use for one!

might not have to worry about GM either, rumor has it they are dumping the Colorado/ canyon/ isuzu thing because they are terrible and dont sell worth a crap. a friend of mine works for a local GM dealer and he said they are warranty nightmares and GM wants them gone. so if thats true, toyota and nissan will be on top by default.

although im sure many will agree that the ranger is superior to the S10 platform trucks, lol i do think they were alot better then the colorado/ canyon/ isuzu garbage. at least they had the solid 4.3 vortec and didnt feel like a tin can.

Lol nope I don't agree, sorry. I think both are equal, and it comes down more to a brand preference. They both have ups and downs as any brands and differing models will. I was a GM guy first, this Ranger made me change my ways, although I went from GM or nothing, to hell as long as it isn't a Jap truck I don't care. I own both, I will preach about the niceties of both, and I'll run them both into the ground, tear 'em apart and rebuild. Then I'll keep cruisin' till the needle hits E, and my credit cards on fire!

Might I add, my GMC has more leg room, even in a standard cab then my ext cab Ranger, the Ranger has an equal aftermarket following, they are both about as expensive to work on, they both have engine troubles along the same lines, 2.3l are far superior to the 2.2 in my GMC, I can keep going but I don't need too. To each their own, and their own to an end.

When I bought this Ranger the sales manager told me he's heard rumour of the F100 coming back. Be interesting to see what (if anything) develops over the course of the next couple of years.

Lookin like Ford's taking a big gamble, but I also read an old article online from early 2000's which said Ford plans to axe Ranger in 2012 I think it was. They weren't far off and it did happen. Someone knew some inside info.

I may have exaggerated just a tiny bit....

But on a serious note, the current F150 dwarfs my 1980 F100. And the F100 is considered a full size truck. With the seat all the way back in the F100, I fit perfectly. In a new F150, with the seat all the way back, I feel like i'm 6 miles away. There's alot of wasted space in a newer F150. I'm pretty sure you can easily hide a human behind the dash if you gut the a/c ducting.

Sadly, my Ranger is almost as big as my F100. And it's a small truck. But with the Ranger, I fit perfectly, and there is no wasted space, which is something I love.

That's an old rumor. Ford scrapped those plans. Automotive companies stick with what makes them the most money. Without a small truck segment, buyers are forced into the F150, or forced to another make. Ultimately, it nets them monetary gain. But mark my words, eventually there will be a point when there are too many F150's running about. And when that time comes, F-150 sales will drop dramatically, and i'll be laughing as soon as I hear word of that decline.
