I LOVE my Ranger but....
This gas mileage is killing me! I want to trade it in for a 2.3/Manual trans of the same years: Late 01 to 03. And if possible ext cab. I bet the latter would be hard to find?

Re: I LOVE my Ranger but....
Used Rangers of any kind in my area are hard to find and over priced when you do find one.
What kind of gas mileage are you getting?
The gas prices continue to climb. I'm glad I got a 4 banger!

Re: I LOVE my Ranger but....
I haven't really ever calculated it, but probably in the high teens. It really disappoints me because my Taurus which also has the Vulcan gets on average 6 mpg more than the Ranger but that is the case with trucks!

Re: I LOVE my Ranger but....
It doesn't seem worth it to sell your truck to buy a new one if you will get mildly better gas mileage. And yes, the only reason I would get a 4.0L cylinder is if you are towing or it is 4x4 and there is never a reason to get a Vulcan unless that's all that is available.

Re: I LOVE my Ranger but....
is a diesel conversion worth it? (i mean a whole new diesel engine not converting the stock one over to diesel) you get to keep the power and use less fuel

Re: I LOVE my Ranger but....
When I got my new Ranger in June, the dealer had to go over 150 miles to find an XLT 2.3/M5. Love it, 24-25 mpg towing my boat.
Did find out though that if you want the ext. cab you have to get 4.10 gears as opposed to 3.73 om mine. That alone will cost you a couple MPG.

I didn't know that, thanks! To be honest I probably would settle for one with automatic if that was my only choice. the Duratec has significantly more power than the Lima so it isn't as much of a slug! And I know, I'd be losing the 7' bed if I did this, but the aftermarket for them is little to non-existant compared to the 6' box.

Psh if I had an SAS I wouldnt be complaining... My Grand seems to do alright with the 4.7... The Moto's a different story though...
