no they dont. the AUTO locking hubs in the 3rd gen rangers (up to 97) are spring/ cam actuated, not vacumm operated. the MANUAL locking hubs are the ones you have to get out of the truck and manually lock in by turning the center of them. i assure you, only the 98-00 rangers had vacuum actuated auto locking hubs. the 01+ 4x4's have no hub interlock at all, the front axle is engaged all the time.

we dont have any locking hubs to worry about at all, we have a live axle.
thanks, I still dont know that much about my 4x4 system or 4x4 systems in general. Alls I know is when i hit that 4x4 switch, it works (At least it better) and thats all im worried about.

yeah i think ill wait til spring because id rather have a shiny new toolbox when its nice out instead of during the winter. we have close to 2 feet of snow here now (finally). has anyone ever towed with their 4.0 4x4 before? me and my buddy may go to the Adirondacks to go snowmobiling in January and i was wondering how these trucks do at towing. it'd be 2 sleds and a open side by side trailer. i thought i read somewhere max towing was around 5,000 lbs?

you will have no problem pulling 2 sleds with that, i used to pull 2 sleds on a side by side all the time.
