Don't Want To Be Screwed
Hey everybody,
Driving today in my little 1996 Ranger (4 cyl) and the a/c went out. Anytime i try to turn it on the pulley on the compressor locks up and there are little metal shavings around it.
I called a dealership (won't take it there but wanted to get an idea of what i was looking at) the guy said it would be 1200-1300 to fix. He said that for sure metal shavings are in the system and we'll have to replace several different parts.
Is this accurate? If just the compressor needs to be replaced (the a/c ran maybe 2 minutes after it seized) and what's my worst case? Any help would be appreciated.... Also would be willing to change it out myself if I could find a good step by step. Thanks.
