Default Ranger 4.0L 4x4 - Use for hauling firewood

Hey guys.. I have a 2009 Ranger 4.0L 4x4. My friend's grandmother has 70 acres about 10 miles from where I live, and I can take down trees, cut/split them and bring them home for firewood.

The wood is unseasoned, since I am cutting them down and bring home the split pieces the same day. How much wood can the Ranger safely handle w/o hurting the transmission or frame? I have no real way of determining how much the wood weighs (I know I can take an average weight times the total number of pieces).

How are you guys using your 4.0L Ranger's for hauling firewood? Are you filling up the bed up to the siderails, are you going higher than the siderails, etc???

Thanks!

you wont have a problem hauling wood with it, just dont over load it. the trucks max payload is approx 1200# thats a decent amount of wood.

Thanks guys! I don't have access to a trailer, although I may get one in the future.

When you say "don't overload it".. should I stack the wood no higher than the siderails, or lower than the siderails?

I wouldn't stack above the side rails.

Also see this post for additional reading on hauling firewood.

just use your best judgment as to how much to load in it. if the axle is sitting on the bump stops and the headlights are pointed to the sky than you have too much in there.
