Is it worth it???
New guy here. I am considering purchasing a 1998 Ranger that has 223,000 miles on it. It has a 4 cyl, 5 speed, and has sat for at least a year and a half. A guy I work with used to drive it to work 50 miles one-way until he got a different car, then he just parked it. He says it uses a quart of oil about every 1500 miles or so. I did drive it and it seems to run smooth, no motor noise (that I could hear, muffler rusted out), tranny shifts well with no noises (once again, that I could hear), clutch did not slip. It has an issue with the front end (shutters real bad turning right, possibly tie rod ends). He was not the best at changing the oil in it, sometimes going 10,000+ miles between changes. No visible major rust. He is asking $600 bucks (his wife wants it out of the driveway).
I am pretty handy in the garage but no where near a master tech. Am I buying a headache or not? Any input is appreciated!! Thanks!!
