duh. Of coarse a super duty is bigger. I would not go as far to say a 77 is tho. I owned a '67 f-100 and it is not as large as the current f-150.

The '67 was the first of the square body style and stayed that way until '97.

Still a moot point...
Regardless to the experience, no one wishes to
have to experience anything negative. That
includes brakes of all types, when they don't stop
an accident from happening or make it worse than
it could have been.

As for the rail cars, dragsters. I don't see any
road vehicles with bicycle tires on them yet, much
less having drum or disc brakes on those bicycle tires.

otoh I have no problem with someone liking one
type and preferring them over the other, drum
or disc. Whatever floats their boat....... er truck...

My last comment was sarcastic. I was stating the obvious

I never even directed the first comment at anyone specific.

ABS brakes are the best thing ever invented. Sure they got their flaws. My first ever wreck in my first car was a Mazda 626 88 model, it slid off into a ditch when I locked the brakes. I've had similar incidents of having to slam on my brakes, and with ABS I stopped and didn't slide, once you side your done. ABS prevents a slide, saves your tread when you do have to brake hard, and on slick pavement such as rain they help to. Believe me I own an F150 and ABS is disabled for something stupid like a sensor and I have almost had 3 accidents that I know if I had ABS would of been a lot less closer of a call then it was. Sliding on dry concrete isn't fun.

That's the way I see it!

However to be fair there are instances, specifically in
racing and off roading where ABS, even disc brakes
would be a hindrance. In dirt racing you want the
back tires to slide. In some instances
I can see this in off road or 4 wheeling. Anyone ever
heard of a "power slide"? This specifically happens in
dirt track racing.... ABS or even disc brakes wouldn't
be the best thing in the world to use there....

Even on the road, not saying one should do this,
but doing 180's or even 360's is different with ABS
and disc brakes on the rear. And yeah, I'll tell on
myself... I've done my share in the past.....shaking my head
in disbelief, how I lived through some of what I done...
And yes I've gotten away from the police several times....

certainly made driving safer overall compared to
what we did have....

The Ranger is by all purpose a small light duty truck the F-150/Silverado 1500 are also considered light duty trucks, but in the full size category.
Given modern engineering their MPG rating has a small marginal difference unless you compare the 2.* 4 cylinder and the 5.* V 8 together.
Size wise there really isn’t that big of a margin ether the Ford Ranger super cab is 203.6”L x 81.3W & 67.7H and the F150 crew cab is 211.1”L x 97.0”H & 76.2W so you are only talking about 10” or so difference. Not that big really.
It’s when you compare the big F-150 to the small Ranger when the difference is made apparent.
I0” of shoulder room in the cab. F-150 bench seat three people vs Ranger bench seat three people.
Two sets of forward facing seats vs two small side facing jump seats.
F-150 payload (low end) 1710 pounds vs Ranger 1260 pounds

I have driven both as I’m sure many of you have too. On the road and in the parking lot the 150 feels so much bigger and in some cases it is, but to chose one over the other it’s all in the needs of the owner. I have a Ranger because I wanted a truck – something I could use to go camping with, tow a small boat or camp trailer with, move the occasional item too big for a trunk or even SUV (no storage space for a trailer needed) and many other reasons. I could have chosen and bought a F-150 just as easily as the Ranger, but it is just the misses and myself for most of the time (no need for extra seating/space) and things I have read about the 5.4 blowing plugs out scared me away.

I drive my 2010 Ranger to and from work/for camping/to carry the long, tall, heavy or other wise won’t fit in the trunk of our family car (2010 Focus 29+- MPG) and when I don’t feel like driving the Focus. It is and was the best choice for me and the longer I have it the more I like it. Just to day out of the blue I told my wife “I love my little truck”

It all depends on what you need, can afford and want to spend….

Yes it does. In fact you just contradicted it again in your 2nd sentence right there. A full size truck is a big truck compared to smaller trucks and especially in certain situations. Everything is relative.

The new raptor has a feature allowing you to turn off all transmission computer controlled stuff, and anything that the computer of the truck may control that would be tore up off road. Pretty sure it disables ABS as well.

Worst thing about disc brakes is mud and dirt get to them easier, and rocks can always get pea gravel can always get in between the pad and then it makes a noise, that or sand. The drum brakes tend to be covered better. Still springs are a pain to replace at least for me.

I like ABS. I had a 79 its not mine now, but that 79 if you bumped the brakes to hard it just slid, and once it was sliding you didn't have much choice. I can see a huge difference from going to ABS brakes. Even on the snow. Once you are sliding, and you've locked your brakes up it can be horrible to try and stop. Where is now days the computers on these new trucks are to the point they can use the brakes of the truck to prevent trailer sway, and even send to which wheel needs to be stopped, yes some of the newer vehicles, especially the ones with the roll over prevention like the Ford Expedition's and Explorers, and even some F150's have the ability to let the truck decide what is going on, and how to handle it and where to apply the brakes to. If you are straight stopping, and it senses all the wheels are not sliding, then its gonna leave the brakes to do what they normally do, where is if you where if one wheel was sliding on a patch of ice it would apply brakes to the others that weren't. It gets complicated, but it is getting to that point now.

The entire comment was referring to people who think the F150 is a big truck. It's not a big truck.

I would consider the F150 a normal size truck

I agree, F150 isn't a big truck. The Ranger is a compact truck. The F150 however is bigger then most trucks as far as height. Ford has always had height over almost any manufacture, and I ain't talking about those damn dodges that Dodge put out on their lot after having them lifted, I am talking about a STOCK TRUCK vs a STOCK F150, the F150 always came up off the ground higher. My truck has 18" rims on it, and my buddy's Z71 Off Road of the same year has just 16" rims, and the truck doesn't sit up no where near as high as mine, and we can put a 3000lb trailer on his truck, and it will squat quite a bit, we put it on mine, and it barely squats the truck. Same trailer, and all.

I've got a problem with this statement. You keep stating that as if its an absolute truth, when it just plain isn't. To somebody who's used to a Ranger, S-10, or even some Dakota's, an F-150 IS a big truck, especially in tight situations like parking ramps. Believe me, my parking ramp at work is full of full size pickups with their asses sticking out making it hard to get around them, while mine fits in a spot with room to spare. It depends on each person's perspective, if you don't see this, then I'm not sure what else I can say.
