11k is baby shit compared to what people pull every day with their trucks. Ford may not recommend it, but they do admit the truck can do pull more then its own weight. I wouldn't be afraid to pull more then 11k, and their is always ways to help keep your truck off the axle by means of stiffer leafs, and what not.
pulling 11k and being rated to pull 11k are two different things. can you? sure you can. should you? probably not.

I had this same dilema when I went and bought my new Ranger. If you are worried about price, I bet you can find a 2010 Ranger that with some negotiations that we all love, for a much better price than 27k. Mine is a 2010 Sport 4X4 5spd Supercab and I walked out the door for around 20k mostly b/c they wanted it off their lot since it's considered "last years model." For me an F150 was just too big and to get one just like my Ranger with 4X4 etc, I was looking at 30k+ It all comes down to prefrence. I traded my 1998 in with right at 200k miles and figured that if it could last that long with minimal problems and still be as mechanically sound as it was, then this thing might last me 15+ years. All Ford has done is tweaked and tweaked on this thing and they always say that the last couple of years a vehicle is built, it tends to be the best although that's just a rumor.

I agree with you...

Although if you look at my previous posts, you will
see I got my 2011 for about 20k also....

20K! Man, I didn't do that good when I bought my 11. But I believe in supporting our local family owned dealership over the auto-supermarkets even if it's a few more dollars.
My 98 Ranger went 120K without any problems at all. My 03 wasn't as lucky and needed some front end work at around 60K, but all in all a fine vehicle.
If I can get 15 years out of this one I will be just about at the age when my wife says she'll put me in a room and hose me down once a week.

Well put..the last line especially..few would say it that way. I love my Ranger...not too big or small. No need to bother someone for their truck once in a while,..and can carry 5 people if that ever happened. The long time with few changes also means that Ranger owners are probably best off as years go by and parts get harder to find. Many new cars have major changes so often that you can throw that idea out the window. Whether it is a auto maker or Apple computers...the ideal business profits can come by way of making products that are either disposable...in the 1st place...or by bringing out a way better newer version soon....the newer version already well under way when the previous hits the market sometimes. We who keep a product like a Ford Ranger are potentially saying ****-you to that way of planning. I too have bought some items locally which I could have bought out of town at a chain store and saved a few bucks. Especially in smaller towns/cities doing otherwise can secure poor times where you live..and for what?...extended warranty that you have to pay for?...the better price not so good if you figure in time spent and gas used going to and from there.

Hey there!
I wuz supporting a country small time dealer too!
Actually same place where I got my 02.
On this one however, I 1st went to a big city dealer.
All I got there was lied to and insulted. Manager
laughed at me when I said the trade should be around
20k! This was not even considering painting my
camper top, which I got also.

So yeah, gotta support the country bumpkins, hillbilly
rednecks! Guess I also gotta help keep them damn
yankees in a job so they will quit carpet bagging
my local!

X2 again....
My 02 had 106k on it at trade.
Tranny went out at about 96k.
Put in a refurb Ford. Have a friend who works parts
at that big city dealer I couldn't trade at..
Had 100k warranty, but I've never had a 444 or 555
tranny go over 100k without a meltdown. Made no
difference if it drove easy and the fluids changed or
not, I've had 3 go out and know of a couple more the
same way. Ford's older trannies were great, but I
dunno what happened with these last few models?

Don't know where you live, but rangers are everywhere here. From engineer companies to construction, delivery services for vehicle part stores, etc..

F150 are very popular with construction companies, mostly good for appearances, but for the greater part, totally useless.

I wouldn't know why drums are so popular, maybe because very few people actually maintain their brakes, they let the the back parts rot and rely on the front disc brakes. It's expensive to maintain 4 disc brakes because they are visible, you can't hide them under a shell and pretend they still work. I could be wrong, who knows.

the other thing about drum brakes is they are a lot harder to "lock-up". Back when I was following it a lot, drag racers used to switch to front drums brakes to keep from locking up the tiny front wheels at the top end...so that kinda makes sense for rear brakes on a small truck that will be lightly loaded most of the time

My old f150 4x4 supercrew 4.6l got just as good if not better gas mileage than my 4.0 ranger is getting

It's all relative. Like I used to tell my old girlfriends, "Even a battleship looks small in the ocean."

howso? Rangers are a good bit easier to park and maneuver and just plain take up less space (especially in parking ramps for example).

duh.

I'm speaking relative to other trucks I've driven. My two 77's and my dad's superduty are quite a bit bigger than a F150
