Default Sometimes people on FRF are right

So, as most of us remember, I posted a thread a while back about getting a ticket. Some people on here said just be honest and polite to the officer. Well last night I got pulled over...again. I was following my friend to his house last night. He usually drives slower than hell. Well we were going around 60 in a 55. After a few minutes I notice a car catch up to me. It followed us for a mile or two. Just as we go to get in the turn lane at a three way to make a left turn, we pass a cop and the one behind us throws on his lights and darts in between us. The other also turns around. So my friend pulls over and I do too. Well when one of the cops walks up to my window he looked puzzled and asks me why I pulled over. I said well yall came inbetween us and I thought you wanted to pull us both over. He looks at me and says works for me. He asked me what I did wrong and I just went ahead and said speeding. He takes my liceance and goes back to his car. It tokk him forever to come back and I thought he was writing a ticket. When he comes back he gave me a warning and we talked and joke around for a few minutes about my uncle who is a Balwin County Sherriff also. The other officer does the same for my friend. So, I guess yall were right. I wasn't a dickhead and was honest, so I didn't get a ticket.

Hmmm, sounds like the smokies weren't in the mood for a ticket writin party.

In all seriousness, being polite helps alot, in most cases. I had a buddy that was caught doing 80 in a 45. The cop was very pissed, but my buddy was apologetic, and explained to the officer why he was speeding, and how he shouldn't have left the house, and in general respected the cop. Obviously, he didn't get away with a slap on the wrist, but he wrote my buddy up for 65 in a 45. Being nice helps.

Nice always helps, if you are a dick, to me your just writing your own ticket. Some cops take it personally if your speeding and get pissed off, I dont know why maybe cause their EGO takes over for them like Judge Dredd, but there is no reason for it. Even if they are a dick, maintain the politeness and you show you have respect no matter what. Also if you know you were doing something wrong, man up and admit it, just like you did...it goes a long way!

my friend: (driving about 130 on the interstate)
cop: son do you know why i pulled you over?
friend: umm speeding?
cop: yes. do you you know how fast you were going?
friend: not really...
cop: how does 90 sound?
friend: yea thats about right... (trying not to laugh)

its funny but he got to keep his license by not arguing with the cop

people don't realize that cops don't really enjoy writing tickets...and 90% of people walk away with a warning....Most people talk themselves INTO a ticket.....it's quite funny

Well being an ass would have still got you a ticket. At least you gave it a try.

I expect to get a ticket if I am stopped!
I ask for NO quarters and I give NO quarters!
I've been around LE way way too long, ticket writing is
a BUSINESS! IT makes MONEY! It's about money as
much as anything else. (Although reckless driving will
really pee off most any LEO.)
And to be honest I've probably gotten away from almost
as many LEO's as I have been ticketed by them....

No law is ever broken unless you're caught.
(That is true.)

Another reason for being honest;
I blew a stop sign out in the county, 1/2 mile of clear viewing on all 4 corners. I noticed a white truck parked on the side of the road 1/2 mile from the corner. It's an unmarked cop and he pulls me over, asks if I saw the stop sign. Like a teenager getting his first ticket I say 'no'. A week later the stop sign has a flashing red light. I think if I'd told the truth and said I blew the stop sign because in my opinion there was no need for a stop sign, maybe there would be a yield sign there instead and I might have got a warning instead of a C$270.00 ticket + 3 demerit points. The cops have take your word as given and then repeat it when giving input to the county/city on speed limits and signage so I think if you tell the truth and give a reason it might help change some of the stupid slow speed laws and unnecessary signs. Another thing to help is actually talking to the cops and tell them why you think a speed law or sign should be changed.
Rant over,

Richard
