Default Buh-bye, Sport Trac

FRFs:

Louisville Assembly built the final Explorer Sport Trac last week, according to Automotive News. LAP will keep making regular Explorers until Dec. 13 when the last BOF Explorer rolls out the door. A tooling changeover will follow, then, according to a Ford VP, LAP is "going to build other vehicles from our global, compact car platform," according to Jim Tetreault. "We'll build several new vehicles off that platform and no, I can't tell you what they are today."

Good bye last of the cool Ford SUV's.

20 years from now, how are we supposed to make a bada$$ OHV that can still carry the family? Could you even get the same suspension travel from these new crossovers?

My wife has a 2010 Escape.
She wanted that instead of the Explorer cuz she thought the
Explorer was too big and was higher priced for similar
equipped vehicles. I kind'of liked the Escape before she got
hers and I thought it would be a sweet riding car. WRONG!

We like the Escape, but it rides pretty tuff... Any of my
Rangers rode better. Plus the Escape is a very finicky
handling vehicle. The steering is waaay too sensitive. You
are having to stay on the car all the time. I mean it's
like your micro-driving the thing, having to concentrate
on driving it all the time. It is definitely not a long distance
cruiser.

The revamped 3L is a hoss though. But if you get down on the
throttle the whole vehicle resonates. Only other thing I
don't like about it is there is no decent place to rest your
arms... Console is too low and the window ledge is too high.

Problem is there ain't any other cars or trucks I would
personally want except the Explorer or Ranger. People
just don't seem to know how to discriminate vehicles
any more, nor anything else. It's the hype and publicity
that is selling all these new fangled cars now. Cuz there
surely ain't no real driving experiences to be had in most of them.

I really did like that Sport Trac and had been wondering
about it's demise also...

Mike

I'm with you, Darkstar; that's one cool Sport Trac! Still, I wonder if Ford outpriced it (like the new $40K Edge Sport) for the intended market.
