I'm with you, I stopped buying new in the 90s, and I have taken buying used to the next level by buying salvage. I posted somewhere that I estimate I have save $80,000+ on vehicles and insurance, in the last 10 years on the last 4 salvage vehicles I have purchased. However its fun to own new, but no fun shopping for a new vehicle, you have to decide to be a wolf and not prey waiting to be slaughtered. The last new vehicle I bought I searched in a 100 mile radius and knew what every dealership had of the model I was searching for, the dealer knows this too he can easily look it up, I got the report and just got on the phone and started calling. I ended up with the top model with most of the extra's but not my color of choice, I saved close to $7,000, the next best deal was $3,000 higher, that money was in my pocket and I used it to buy a used car. Two cars for the price of one.

Dude I hear you. I did the same thing, but when I was buying my ranger. I bought it used. I actually did a 500 miles search from where I live in Ohio and then a 300 mile search from where my brother lives in Chicago. I ended finding one in wisconsin for $3000 less and a place about an hour from me. I figured the $500 in gas between me and my dad driving out there and back was worth it. If I can offer any advice, it would be be to do your research and you'll find the best deal. I searched for 5 months before I found the one that I knew I really wanted. And depending on the dealership, don't be afraid to be a "dick" so to speak. Don't take the first offer they give you on a vehicle. But work with them to find the best alternative.
