There is no restriction on who is allowed or capable of downloading and seeing the data. There are a number of compaines that make computer software and an adapter to plug into the truck for anyone who wants to buy it. Yes it can also be used by police, lawyers, angry parents, disgruntled girlfriends, etc. But remember, like I said before, it is an event data recorder. It only retains data after what i percieves as an "event". These triggers are basically anything activated the airbags or came "close" to activating the airbags. It is not going to retain your daily driving history or other non-event data.
