Trust my guy I know many people shit on the 4cyl, but you won't have a problem. If any thing go to a ford dealer tell them what you want. Ask them if they have any 4cyls there and test drive one. They will more than likely be automatic trans. The 4L V6 is really only good if you need it. However the trade off is worse fuel economy. The city economy isn't too good at about 15mpg even with 5spd manual.

Here's another one for you.

Cheap, fast, reliable.

Pick any two of them

Hey, I did finally buy my truck yesterday. Kind of dirty, but once I get it cleaned up I will post pictures. It was a '95, 4 cylinder with 177K, 5 speed, with the extended cab. Also, had several nice options on it: Cruise, Tilt, 5Cd changer, bug guard, window vent guards, alloy wheels (I've got a question about that that I will post later in the wheels section), sliding rear window all for $2695 including title, tag, and current emissions. I'm on air. Thanks for the info.

nice find. i have the same setup as you. 2.3 5 speed and i often pull a portible pump for our firehall. it's a 500 gpm pump and uses a 4 cyl engine. i have no problems towing it and only know it's back there on a couple hills but if i watch my speed and know were i'm at i often go up it in 4th gear with pump in tow.

i guess the manual tranny helps you tow more and have better control when towing, especially since you only have the 2.3 and not the 4.0
