Default Herculiner Bedliner product

Hey Guys

Anyone ever use the Herculiner product ? I found it at a local parts store and bought the kit . I was going to do a rhino liner but the Maaco franchise said it would be 2 to 3 weeks . Figured I would do it myself ....

Thanks

I did! It came out great!!! BUT there is alot of prep work to be done but way better than paying 300-400 for it

I highly recommend using a metal paint stirrer with an electric drill

Hey Clinton

looks good ...

How's the durability ? Can you throw stuff in the back without scratching or removing the herculiner coating ? I have a snow blower , and I also use it to get some firewood or small stuff around the house ....

Thanks, it's recommended 2 coats, i thin primer coat, let it dry and a thick 2nd coat. My brother got it for me on ebay for around 58.00. I pulled the drop in liner out, found rust. Ground out all the rust, put rustoleum on those parts, scuffed all the paint with the pad supplied, then used the chemical to clean it all out (the name slips my mind but its in the how to) taped and papered everything off, rolled on the primer coat, waited about 5 hours then did the second coat. I painted the bolts first then pulled the tape off the bolts after the second coat. It's real simple just takes time. If you follow the instructions you can't go wrong! Good luck guys!!

I got mine at a local parts store for about $69.00 a gallon . They say with an 8 foot bed , you need another quart . The kit comes with all the application tools , scuff pads and paint applicators . but you need to get some acetone to clean the bed after you prep it and it is supposed to be really nasty once it dries to get off . They also recommend 2 coats as clinton says , the first one thin , then the second one heavy , but stirring it all the time while applying , and to make sure you scuff the old paint and prep the surface to make sure it is pretty clean to bond to .

I'll get some pics as well during the proccess as I need to put some truck pics up as well .

Thanks

you only need the quart for a full size pickup bed, you will have plenty for your truck with one gallon, I had more than 1/4 left which I ended up throwing out

I swear by Herculiner-I've had it in my last 2 trucks. Prep is the key. Do yourself a HUGE favor-back out the bed bolts a little bit and mask them before application. When I did mine on my '04, I removed them one at a time, put a big hex nut on each bolt for a spacer, tightened them back down, and then masked the washer and head of the bed bolt. When liner is dry (I did 3 coats on the bedsides and 5 coats on the wheel wells and floor) remove the spacers and tighten bolts to 55 ft lbs. If you coat right over the bolts, you'll be hating life if you ever have to remove the bed--body lift, fuel pump, etc.

Do the same thing with the tailgate-remove the bolts that hold the access panel on and coat the gate and panel separately. You'll easily be able to get the panel off if you need to adjust or replace your tailgate handle.
Plus-it just looks better.

I also keep one of those cheapo rubber bed mats around in case I need th use my truck for a truck--that being said, Herc is pretty rugged stuff.
