Default to cover or not...

i have been having an internal debate for quite some time now, and have finally decided to ask for outside help with it.
when i bought by truck (used) it had a hardtop tonneau cover that matched the paint, over time with use and abuse the lifters have stopped working, part of it has began to split, and it has gained some scratches. i am considering removing this, and replacing my drop in with a roll on liner(but back to the point). by removing this, i will drop some weight(i plan on doing some drag racing at the local strip, so that would be good, and apperantly will gain some mpgs, also good. but my truck would lose some of its appeal, and i will end up spending extra money to re-line the bed.

question?comments?opinions?

if the cover is damaged and not repairable I would remove it. If you like it see if it can be fixed (debate over) As for the racing set up having a cover should reduce drag, but increase weight. Maybe a soft cover would serve the same porpoise. No one has proven to me that a cover/shell does anything for MPG other then maybe the weight factor

Lose it, get a tri-fold. Easy on, easy off.

In my experience, there is a slight mpg reduction getting rid of a bed cover but only about 1 mpg, so it's up to you. I like the fact that if there is something in the bed, it's out of sight, out of mind. To each their own.

Personally, I would replace it but with either a soft top, tri-fold, or a roll up. The tri-fold and soft top won't intrude into the bed where as the roll up will.
