I pay ~60$/month full coverage, with new car replacement insurance included. Some provinces got hit by huge raises in premiums these last few years due to cops not investigating car thefts anymore. I can't really complain, i paid more for my 4 year old sporty coupe than i do for my pos ranger.

-As per my insurance broker: Insurance companies often offer huge rebates on new clients, and rarely any rebates at all on returning ones (only the standard reductions, nothing major).
-Insurance rates are affected by age after 25 years of age in canada (in fact, most companies cannot cover you in their fleet until you turn 25).

Wow I feel a little ripped off after seeing what other people pay... $220 per month for me, thats with 2 million liability, $1000 deductible collision and $500 deductible comprehensive. Plus replacement coverage which I can only get for 1 more year. No shopping around in BC either, government insurance only. Its a joke, if I didn't have a 4x4 it would be way cheaper, apparently we take greater risks or some bullshit like that. I know I've seen quite a few people with 4x4 drive like idiots in the winter thinking that they're invincible, but for the most part they're not the ones I see in the ditches around here. I think up north we compensate for the drivers in Vancouver too... they're crazy down there! And being over 25 doesn't affect it in BC, for every year we drive accident free we get an additional 5% discount up to a certain amount (I think it might be 45% but I could be wrong).
Now we also have a point system, every ticket is worth so many points and once you reach a certain amount there is an annual fee due on your birthday. Points disappear after 3 years. It also depends on the offence. I got an excessive just over 2 years ago and its an automatic payment of $320 every year for 3 years. Pissed me off, wasn't even a real cop that pulled me over - Department of Transport guy, I wasn't even aware they could give tickets and fines. Guess I deserved it though... shouldn't have been speeding lol.

canadiangurl, you are being ripped off, heck that amount is a almost a car payment not insurance. With your deductibles you should be able to almost cut your monthly in half. Why do you need $2million liability, if you have 2 million in assets to protect, then ok, however most provinces have much lower minimums.

2 million is the minimum recommended to protect my ass if I get hit by someone either underinsured, not insured at all or drunk. Apparently when someone drives drunk it voids their insurance, and my liability will cover that if they hit me. And with the new tougher drunk driving laws, I know of quite a few people who get their licenses taken away but keep driving, which then also means they're no longer covered by insurance. Also, with some of the crazy settlements and judgements in lawsuits, I'd rather be overcovered than undercovered.
But I agree, we definitely overpay here. When I had my '06 Focus I think I was paying $180 per month, again that was with the same deductibles plus replacement insurance, and I think only 1 million liability at the time. But thats government insurance for ya, I almost think I would prefer private and then there would be some competition. Pretty much the main reason I didn't get a new F150 like I wanted, I could afford the truck but the insurance was over $300/month. Not something I could fit in the budget with a mortgage payment, maybe if I was still renting.

I always say shop around every year...Insurance companies will compete with each other and you will save money switching....
