Rating the Ranger
just wondering how you guys would honestly rate the ranger against its compact truck competitors such as the tacoma, possibly ridgeline, colorado, canyon, dakota, ridgeline(kinda fits this category), frontier, etc.
make a ranking or just speak your mind..
to me i prefer the ranger and tacoma agianst the other, with the frontier in a distant third...however, ranger is #1 because of affordablility when it comes to the tacoma, at least for me it is

The Ranger is the only true compact truck left on the market. It has been #1 in compact back when there were other compacts for a reason. Affordability is a huge plus. The price tag on Tacomas is just ridiculous. Ridgeline, not a truck to me, you need at least one solid axle to be a truck and not made entirely of plastic. Colorado/Canyon, just do not care for the design at all, and I do not know anything about their 4 and 5 cyl engines. Dakota, blah, all it has that seems decent is a v8 option. Frontier, Nissan has a good build, but the aftermarket options for the frontier seem to be more limited than the Ranger.

There really isn't anything left in the same class as the Ranger, so it's hard to compare it to anything. Everybody else has moved up to mid-size pickups except Ford, and yet the Ranger still sells. Why? I think it's because it's a mini tank. The reliability is outstanding, as well as the styling. To me every other mid size truck on the market is ugly as hell. Dakota? LOL! Tacoma? LOL! Canyon/Colorado? LOL!
In a way it pisses me off though, because Ford has us by the balls. For all it's shortcomings, Ford can still sell the truck without making any upgrades to it, because they know and we know it's an awesome little truck. If you want a small truck, you either go with the excellent Ranger, or you have to settle for one of the other POS trucks on the market. Ford has definitely milked this truck for all it's worth, and then some.

good points..yeah, nothing really compares to the ranger in both size and reliablility and even the price tag for that matter..i have always love rangers and always will, and believe me the competition makes it hard not to love the Ranger...i think GM compact pick-ups are now second-class and have dropped much since the days of the sonoma and s-10 because at least they were good, capable and that bullet-proof 4.3L Vortec engine was just admirable..also, they only thing the dakota has is the optional V8...Rangers is in a league of its own and i bleieve only the frontier and tacoma are even comparable

I would say Ranger hands down in any category you put it in
Price - Function - Dependability
One thing the ranger has over all the other non full size trucks is HERITAGE they have been around for ever and everyone knows the name.

I hope they don't make it ugly....
I would like to have a bit more room, but the other midsize trucks weren't an option for me because the Ranger looks so damn good!

true, yeah i think they might make it a little bigger(which would be nice) but i just hope it keeps the durable, cheap, practical and reliable traits its portrayed for the last 25 years

yeah, its does make any sense to stay the same size cause the entire competition has moved up and now the ranger is like sub-compact and not even compact size anymore...then EVERYONE would buy rangers

I have an 09 now & simply love it.!!
I have fun babying it arround & getting 30mpg with it.
It blows my mind every time I fill it up. My best tank was 32mpg & my worstso far was 29mpg

30 mpg is impressive for a truck but make sure to get her nice and dirty every once in a while...
