I probably performs as well as any truck we can get and gets waaay better gas milage. Seems to be what vehicles in other countries are all about. I have seen some bad ass Dihatsu and Mitsubishi's that get 30mpg and can out 4 wheel anything we have.

its all the emissions standards that kill mileage here. the reason we cant get alot of the motors used over seas is because we have more strict emissions standards than most other countries. when you start adding more and more emissions systems to engines you start taking away from the efficiency of the engine therefore getting lower MPG's.

IIRC correctly it is available in Mexico, thus it's available in North America.

Exactly. Global Ranger sounds a heck of a lot better than "Almost global Ranger minus a few other countries where there will be no Ranger"

Now read this article..I just found it. Quite a different take on things if you read it all. I'm not saying I do or don't agree. But if this were the case....the end of the full size is coming.

Ford never stopped making the Taurus. The Five Hundred was a different car entirely. It may of been meant to replace the Taurus, fact is Taurus was made till 2007 with the old body style from 1997 up to 2007. Then in 2008 it changed to the Five Hundred style, then in 2010 it got a whole new look with a new motor added in addition to the 3.5L it got an Ecoboost 3.5L Turbo Charged V6 with 365 Horse Power. I worked a dealership so I know the car never stopped being made.

Ranger in America may go but I doubt it. The new F150 V6's are suppose to be 3.7L's which was originally made for the Ford F100. As far as I know Ford is putting the 3.7L in the new rangers, and changing the body style to better match the Dakota and Colorado. Ford is also scrapping the 5.4L and 4.6L in their trucks. I believe the three options in the F150's are 3.7 300HP V6, the 5.0 V8 with 380 HP, and the 6.2L V8 with 411 HP.

So now I wonder what will Mazda do. in regards to the U.S.A. and Canada.......no pick-up truck for that market? I don't think so. A re-badged/skinned F-150?....maybe..but not likely. The Global truck coming here only by way of Mazda?...more likely I suspect.

Well I finally got my 2011 Ranger. Long story, but the short of it
is I went to another dealer and got the same one as I listed,
except without the remote start and heavier suspension/shocks.
Deal was good. 2500 off list, 2500 rebates, 3.9 interest, and
I was allowed 5300 for my truck. And one last thing, the dealer
is painting my camper to match my new Ranger, at no cost.
I think this deal would be very hard to top!

One thing I did notice about the new Rangers as well as last years model, is that there is only ONE interior color! Don't you all find that odd?

Mike

Good for you Mike!! The one color choice for the interior probably has something to do with the end of production. Please post some pictures of it. John

A long time ago I knew a guy at work who had a Camaro. He modified the front of the hood and put lights there as the car in the 70's TV show Knight-rider(?) had. One day I was talking to him in the parking lot beside his car. I noticed on the door handles it said TURBO. I asked "It isn't turbo-charged is it?". He quickly answered "No". WTF? is with these people..and they can vote?!!!
Also I'm not going to bother posting a link for this but GM is canning their smaller truck for N.America..at about the same time they release a new one for the rest of the world. Colorado? Following Fords' plans. As said before I wonder what Mazda will do...no truck to sell in Canada and the U.S.A.,...for how long? I wonder if we will be able to buy the Mazda version of the Global Ranger...at a Mazda dealership before 2011 is over?

Ford and GM complain that their "compact" trucks aren't selling yet keep trying to convince us to move up to more horsepower, more towing (and more size and cost with less fuel economy). If they would have promoted the "compact" trucks with anywhere near the zeal that they promote their huge diesel monsters, they would not have to cancel the production of the smaller trucks. They are still trying to sell us on huge SUVs instead of sensible smaller vehicles. They have conned the market into buying gas guzzlers ("got a hemi in it?").

I think they are missing the boat and will see the Japanese and Korean vehicles come in with something to fill this market niche with promotion and resultant sales. Smaller vehicles are the future (the present outside North America). US is going to lose more ground and perhaps will only be left building big trucks in the future (wait, Nissan and Toyota are already gaining in that market, too)

I noticed that on their websites, Ford and GM state that there are rebates for their "compact" trucks. When I went to dealerships, there was no mention of the rebates - $4000 to $6000. They only mention the MSRP before the rebates with nothing stating that there is rebates. GM and Ford don't advertise these vehicles on TV, so unless you go to their websites, the public does not know the real price, just the window sticker price at dealerships, which are scarily high. Potential purchasers walk away from "compact" trucks listed at $28,000, when they should be getting the $22,000 (after rebate) trucks for $21,000. Hmm... Maybe the lack of advertising and the MSRP being nearly 30% too high may be why these trucks aren't selling.

thx,
I figured the same about the interior color, but still,
also being this way last year?

I'll post some pics when I get the truck. Supposed
to be picked up by the dealer today. My schedule
is pretty tight and originally I was gonna pick it
up next Monday week, giving them time to swap out
the camper, and paint it. (Going on vac this
Wednesday so I wasn't in a big hurry for it till
I got back.) Dealer was letting me drive my old
truck till I picked up the new one. But I do need
to haul a shower/jacuzzi tub and I can do that with
the camper off and without pulling a trailer.
So I may get it tomorrow if I have time, which I
only have the morning to do this. Problem here is
the dealer is like 65-70 miles away.

Regardless I'll get some pics. Another thing that
strikes me is how little the truck has changed
since 2002. Everything is basically the same. Same
interior and exterior. Grill is different and I like the
02 grill much better, probably the best of all the
Rangers. And the instrument cluster is not as nice
on the 2011 as the 02. Some mechanical
improvements are noted concerning the rear
brakes being discs now, along with tire pressure
monitors. And the new, supposedly computer
aided handling. The interior has hand grabs over
the doors. I don't see a lot difference elsewhere.

Besides, I've come to not like so many constant
changes in my old age. Keeping things close to
the same means stability and less fuss over getting
used to something that would be totally different.
At least ALL the bugs should have been worked out
of the Rangers by now!

Mike

The little changes to the Ranger also helps with cheaper new body parts like front fenders. GM has had a few cars made in South Korea which they only sold with the same sheet-metal for 2-3 years. Fine if you lease it and don't keep it..but if you want to drive it until it dies...not so good. Same for any vehicle that has major changes every few years. While the costs involved are not good..it helps to cause people to not keep such all that long..and increase sales. Remember the cost of gas post-Katrina...and 2 years later again because of commodity speculators. We got a break shortly after that 2nd time only because of the worst recession since the great depression. I doubt that we won't see the highest fuel prices ever in less than 10 years..just depends when things pick up. At that time a cleaver manufacturer may bring out a mini-truck..not likely any of the Big 3 though. Volkswagen made one in the late 70's. Something like that with maybe a 4 cylinder diesel.

I knew a young guy who bought one of these. His had a V-6..not an inline like is referred to here. Notice the prices..and what does the South Korean worker get paid? Some years back the last Levi's jean factory in N.America was closed. Now when you buy a pair of Levi's the where it was made tag is hidden under the top of a pocket...Bangladesh...one of the poorest countries on the Earth. But the jeans didn't drop in price at retail. I wonder what the workers make?
