Thanx,
I am at the point of still considering what I need to do with my
02 Ranger. I don't even have a firm grasp on what prices I should
be looking at, asking for it. All I know is the truck is near perfect,
maybe 2 or 3 very light scratches, paint like new otherwise. Interior
is similar. 106k miles. New rebuilt Ford L555 trans. The truck is 100%
concerning upkeep and maintenance. I'll keep my camper
top and have it painted for my new Ranger. But I haven't clue as
to what I should ask. So I'm still figuring.

I did get with my 0 % offer an offer of 1k extra pay from Ford
if I traded in with my dealer. A lot to consider in 5 or 6 weeks.

They just didn't want to order one is all..
I've seen and heard of dealers doing this before.
Simply go on the net and search your local dealers for what they
have in stock. Then either go there to that dealer if you find one
close by or go to your dealer close by and tell them you found
one you want but it is located somewhere else. If you convince them
you are actually gonna buy it or give them so much money as
good faith money, they will not turn you down..

Yeah probably. I am pretty particular on what I want and probably pissed them off when i turned down a 06 ext cab 4.0L auto 4x4 with 29k. IMO they wanted way to much (19k) and id rather order the truck I wanted for another 6k or so AND get it brand new.

I bought my 03 instead the following day (wednesday)

Mike here is a link to find the value of your 2002 Ranger. I would have gotten the link for the page specific to where you live, but I don't know where that is. Click on pickups in the used box..then it will ask you for your zip (which I didn't know) and it should end up showing you 3 values depending on condition. PS:I live in Canada, but this is for the U.S.A.

For others, as far as a dealer saying you can't order one as you like it. One previous link vaguely said production will end EARLY in 2011. So maybe you can still get one ordered (a.y.l.) from a different dealer but time will end soon for that with the last plant working with placed orders for the last few weeks. Possibly the last of them on dealer lots may be had at a very good offer (discount) for a buyer, maybe not though.. it would depend on the dealer. Happy Ranger-ing to all for many years to come!!!!!

I checked the KBB values and it looks too good.
2002 in excellent condition lists about 4575 trade-in,
6955 private sale and 9205 retail. I will try to sell privately
first and see how fast it sells. Still not sure of an asking price to start.
maybe 8k?

As for ending production, I can see that wrote all over the walls!
I've been looking at local inventories in my area and even the largest
dealers only has one or two Rangers. 4WD models are practically
non-existent. So it appears Ford is not pushing the Ranger sales
at all. Just letting it die...

Mike here in Canada Kijiji is a popular marketplace. It is free to post whatever there. Free for potential buyers too. Nicer looking than Craigs List which is a little primitive considering its' success.
http://www.kijiji.ca/ It may be useless to post your truck there but check it out. I would think if they would consider adding America it would likely become popular there as well. Maybe someone like you could start/suggest that.

Since the Mazda trucks are different skinned/badged Rangers I got to wondering what Mazda will do and found this article. Click on the press release button for a little more info.

Yeah, I was wondering what Mazda was gonna do with their line?
Still not sure and am now wondering if that concept model shown
on the page is actually the new Ford global truck?

I got to thinking about Ford's past, concerning their old F100 trucks...
My uncle had a 1962 Ford F100 with short, side step bed.(Had a 292 CI engine.)
That truck was smaller than my Ranger. Later he had a 1972 F100 XLT, long bed.
While it was larger than my Ranger, it was bed wise, but the interior was not
that much larger considering the frontal area.(Had a 390 CI engine.)

The F150 trucks of today are just bigger all the way round than their older
ancestors from prior to the 90's. Honestly I can see little need for the F150
series, except for actual work trucks. The Rangers and even the Global
type trucks are much more practical for all round use by average households.
I personally think Ford is shooting themselves in the foot, doing what they are,
Ford claims the Ranger sales are really slow, and rightly so when they are not
even advertising the model and wanting it to die.... I wonder what the sales
of the ranger would have been if Ford had actually advertised the Ranger
and kept it updated?

I was thinking the same as you Mike. Maybe the new Mazda is the Ford global truck. There should be pictures of it soon. And I also agree that the F-150 is huge..a Ranger-sized truck is what I want. Funny the excuse for not selling the new Ranger here,..being 90% the size of the F-150. They didn't think like that when they made the F-100. Sometime in the future the smaller truck will probably return..but unfortunately because of high fuel prices.

I would never have considered an F150 if they didn't have a Ranger...I drove one for 3years and the gas cost was HUGE...= Ford would not have gotten my business. Oh well as long as I can get parts it's their funeral I suppose.

In my area most all the auto parts stores, AutoZone and O'Reilly to name a couple use the Rangers in their parts delivery fleet. Once their current fleet wears out I wonder who they will turn to then?

if Ford really follows through, they will quickly reverse the decision.

A compact truck is arguably the most useful vehicle ever created. Almost every family has an old compact truck sitting in the driveway to get the chores done.

Ford's flaw in logic is that death of ranger = boom in f150 sales.

Really death of ranger = boom in tacoma/frontier/s10/colorado/dakota markets.

There are a lot of people that need a compact truck, there are not a lot of people that NEED a full size pick up

Agreed. My next truck would probably be an F-150 but not because the Ranger will no longer be around but because I really need a full size truck and I want 4X4. Once this one is completely fixed and and I'm ready to get the F-150, mom will get this one for her gardening. She just doesn't know it yet.
