Question Antifreeze/oil....help anyone??

so today i changed the brakes on the truck and just decided to check all the fluids and what not, and i noticed that the antifreeze resevoir was empty. So i took the cap off the radiator and also noticed that the antifreeze was low in there as well. By this time im thinking great, might as well check the worst possible place that it would be going. Pulled the oil dipstick out and to me it looks milky in color. Its very faint but it seems to have a white-ish/silver-ish tint to it. So now im pretty pissed cuz i have a feeling this is gonna cost a small fortune for a garage to fix. But my question is, what exactly needs to be replaced when antifreeze is getting into the block?? I've never had a problem like this with any vehicle i've ever owned so im lost when it comes to knowing what breaks or wears out. I've heard that when the head gasket goes then antifreeze can get into the block. Is this true? and are there any other things that could be bad that would have caused this? Id appreciate any help. Thanks

Some info on the truck would be awesome. Year, engine etc.

Could be as simple as replacing a head gasket. I would not keep driving it. You could overheat it and cause more problems.

sorry, its a 2001 XLT 4x4 OFF ROAD and it has the 4.0L SOHC

Is there a way to tell if it is the head gasket?? or is it just one of those things you just gotta actually take everything apart to get to it and actually see it to tell if its bad? i've heard that if it blows white smoke out the exhaust when u start it or if the fumes have a rich smell to them, both are signs of a bad head gasket. Dunno if its true or not, but if they are, the truck isnt showing either of them.

I agree with Mykhael, don't drive it until you know exactly whats wrong. My best bet is to probably get it towed over to a mechanic that knows his stuff. Keep driving it, chances are, you will make it worse and end up with a bigger problem. So I would definitely take it to the pros if you do not know whats going on. Good luck <:/

oh i wont attempt to fix it. the ford dealership is like 1 mile from my house so im sure thats where it will end up. Im just trying to get some input on all the possibilities/causes of what is wrong with it, so when i do get it to the garage, i'll have a little knowledge on the problem lol.

Yes, white smoke out the tailpipe is a sign of blown head gasket/cracked/warpedv heads. However you can have these troubles without white smoke showing, so best to get a professional opinion. if you do have antifreeze/coolant in the oilpan, head gasket is a likely cause. make sure that every drop of coolant is removed from the pan before you run it again, preferably by removing the oilpan and cleaning it out before fresh oil is installed. coolant can seize bearings.
