Oh, thought you did your whole windshield 5%. Thats not as well if its just the top. However have your drivers/pass 5% that is still dangerous.

Between my current ranger and my last one, I've had 5% on both for a total of 6 years or so. Never been in an accident

I meant that for the first guy that posted earlier. For you I would go with 35% but look at your states laws before you tint anything

Most states don't care about the back. Only the front two

The tint laws are kind of messed up in florida, let me explain. Note: This infomation only applies to Florida Drivers.

Its perfectly legal to have a truck/car with a full size decal on the back glass, such as an american flag, or a business decal. I've personally seen more of the business decals on trucks/vans then I have the decoration type decals such as flag/football team/etc.

Section 316.2954
Quote:
(1)(b)&(2) Windows behind the driver; restrictions on sunscreening material.-- (Edited for relavent content) A person shall not operate any motor vehicle upon any public highway, road, or street, on which vehicle the rear window is composed of, covered by, or treated with any material which has the effect of making the window nontransparent, unless the vehicle is equipped with side mirrors on both sides that meet the requirements of s. 316.294.
So 5%/2.5%/0% "should" be legally allowed here under this section of florida law as long as you have two side mirrors & the 5%/2.5%/0% is install on only the rear window. Same applys to full size rear window decals.

Section 316.2951
Quote:
(6) "Window" means any device designed for exterior viewing from a motor vehicle, except the windshield, any roof-mounted viewing device, and any viewing device having less than 150 square inches in area.
Here it gets a little tricky. If you measure the rear quarter windows on a supercab ranger, you'll find that those windows are ~252 square inches. However the border of these are really tick/blacked out, so the true viewing size of the windows are ~72 square inches. In theory you could black out these windows & may get away with it. You could try explaining along with a printout to the cop, or prove it to a judge if ticketed. I would say you have a really good case if the judge isn't a power crazy one, because really the real "window" part is only ~72 square inches.

Section 316.2952
Quote:
(2)(b) Sunscreening material along a strip at the top of the windshield, so long as such material is transparent and does not encroach upon the driver's direct forward viewing area as more particularly described and defined in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards No. 205 as the AS/1 portion of the windshield.
Make of note of this, I have received a ticket because the guy you installed the strip of tint on my windshield made it too big, and was around 1inch pass the mark. However the mark was no longer on the wind shield & had been removed. I'm guessing the guy who tinted it removed the mark after doing the tint. Either he mistakenly made it too big & took an "easy fix" way out so if cops saw it, they couldn't say it passed the line or he did it on purpose. The cop issued the ticket under statute 316.610-B, driving with unsafe equipment with a $118.00 assessment. He told me I could get it removed then show it to any police officer at the station & not have a fine to pay. I've never seen a fix-it ticket, and the ticket issued to me was just a normal printed out ticket like I've seen many time. No where on the ticket said it was a it was fix-able, nor did the back list the have the option of taking it to a location to approve it was fix compared to the ones I've seen on google. I thought of requesting a court date and maybe proving it was fixed however since the ticket didn't have that, and I believe that the guy was just lying to me/or maybe made a mistake and printed it out as a normal ticket. However I wasn't going to waste my time & gas to just 'hope' that it would get dismissed.

__________________________________________________ ___________

Some more little bits of information on tint installers & etc.

Section 316.2956
Quote:
(1) Any person who operates a motor vehicle on which, after June 20, 1984, material was installed in violation of ss. 316.2951-316.2954 commits a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a nonmoving violation as provided in chapter 318.

(2) The replacement or repair of any material legally installed is not a violation of ss. 316.2951-316.2954.

(3) Any person who sells or installs sunscreening material in violation of any provision of ss. 316.2951-316.2955 is guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.
Its pretty much any vehicle older then 1984 may have whatever tint you may wish. Tell the police officer it was put on it before 1984, but has been "repaired"/replaced with non-faded tint & since it had it before 1984 it is legal. And I believe you guys can read (3) for yourself.

Section 316.2955
Quote:
(1) Each installer or seller of sunscreening material shall provide a pressure-sensitive, self-destructive, nonremovable, vinyl-type film label to the purchaser stating that the material complies with the provisions of ss. 316.2951-316.2954. Each such installer shall affix the required label to the inside left door jamb of the motor vehicle. In addition, the label shall state the trade name of the material and the installer's or seller's business name. Labeling is not required for factory glazing which complies with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 205.

(2) Every percentage measurement required by ss. 316.2951-316.2954 is subject to a tolerance of plus or minus 3 percent.
Explains itself.
