2001 Ford Ranger Edge
I just bought a 2001 Ranger Edge for my grandson but he don't fit. He is 6'4" and 252 so he is now driving my GMC Sierra pickup and I am driving the Ranger. I have a short question. There is a small push switch directly under the steering column as far down on the dash as you can get. It has a small red cap about the size of a pencil eraser. I am afraid to press it to try and find out what it is. I have no clue whether is a factory switch or some add on. I text-ed the guy I bought it from and he hasn't answered so I guess he don't know. Anyone know what is does and can clue my in? Thanks.

Its not stock. wait for the guy to get back to you. My guess would be that its for some fog lights or something that was removed and he just never took the switch out. Oh and thats pretty funny about him being to big you got the better truck in the end LOL

Thanks for your help. I might just get under the dash and trace the wires if I can. The auxiliary driving lights have a switch to the right of the radio on the dash. I have checked that out and they work fine. Still afraid to press the little red button.

It could be a bypass switch for an aftermarket alarm

If it has an aftermarket alarm, it's probably the valet switch.

I'm 6'1" 350 and i have about 3-4 inches of space between my head and ceiling
