well, from what I understand, and what I think makes the most sense is 5100's are adjustable and will fit trucks that have a lift..
HD's are non-adjustable, and can't be used on trucks with a lift or crank but use the same Nitrogen gas technology and construct as the 5100's. When I ordered through Bilstein, the 5100's weren't even an option for me. Maybe if I dug a bit deeper I could have found 5100's to fit mine, but all in all, it would be the same shock as the HD...

[QUOTE=Renager;172859]I'm wondering what I can do to improve my ride comfort.

Just went through the same battle and in desperation lowered the tire pressure to 27psi and it went from teeth jarring ala-awful to a comfortable sedan smooth ride. Have no idea about tire wear no do I care.

Renager, it takes less than 5 mins to remove your swaybar.

My experience was that the 5100's were just as stiff as stock driving around town. But they made the truck handle MUCH better with less body roll. It was also at high speeds over washboarded highway roads where the Bilstein's were a night and day difference over stock. Those types of roads used to rattle my jaw loose but with the Bilsteins its barely noticeable. The ride quality over that stuff improved so much its crazy. That alone made the Bilsteins worth every penny to me.

When these wear out I'm gonna try the Fox Emulsions which some say are even better than the Bilsteins. (they more expensive too tho)

well if you have a 4wd model with torsion bars yeah they are pretty stiff, also tires makes a lot of differences, mine was 235/60R15 all around now am running 235/70R15 in the front and 255/70R15 in the back, everything kumho road ventures, 2wd coil suspension in the front with cheap monroe shocks, drives like i'm running on a cloudbut yeah just to show you tires matters a lot, shocks can as well

verdict:
Just picked up my truck today.
going from the factory shocks w/ 50k on them to the brand new Bilsteins- I immediately noticed more control overall. I can still feel the bumps on the road, but they don't "linger" anymore, if you know what I mean. The bumps and potholes are less intense. Big potholes can still be felt, but the truck doesn't fish tail anymore as a result.
