man now I'm really confused...
aren't torsion bars used to raise the truck? and since I have a base model, I don't believe I have them.. whatever..

Ya torsion bars "raise" the truck when you crank them

Dont worry about them you dont have them

Get new shocks that are better quality that will improve the ride.

Ill try to help ya out, he's basically just wanting you to search for answers first, its kind of a big deal around most forums but I will try and help beens I know it can be a pain searching forver and not really finding what you want. Yes torsion bars are in the front and can raise the front of the truck but your particular model does not have it. 98's til newer 4x4's have them and some 2wd's even have them but your particular model with the 4 cyl engine and such doesnt have them. basically the only thing that will improve your ride is some good tires, and good shocks. other than that, thats about as good as it will get with your particular truck. I would also recommend the bilstein 5100 shocks, I haven't got mine yet but I have heard nothing but good things about them, but they can be expensive with around 75 bucks a shock give or take alil depending on where you buy them. I would get those shocks if your looking for the cheaper most effective way of improving your problem.... Zach.

The most effective thing to do is remove your front sway bar. It makes a huge difference with how the Ranger handles bumps. The truck won't handle as good though and you'll have to take turns slower. But since you're a stock height 2wd I don't think it would be terrible. Alot of guys who have removed their swaybar have said it is the single best thing you can do to a Ranger to make it ride nice. You can always try it and if it's not your thing, just reinstall it.

Guys the Bilstein 5100s are for lifted applications only. The yellow Bilstein HD shock is what he needs. Getting those along with disconnecting the swaybar I would think would be a huge upgrade in ride quality over stock

got my bilsteins coming any day now..
as far as removing anything, Though it could be helpful.. I'm no mechanic, so I probably wont get into that, and this is a work/everyday vehicle for me.. I dont want to risk removing parts and breaking down..
Looking foward to the shocks!! I'll post a review..
Thanks too all yous

You can get the 5100 shock with 0-1" of lift they will work with his truck.

Yep I put a set of 5100's on truck and they ride really nice (much better then the Rancho's I had on there for a couple weeks)

The Heavy Duty.. Guy on the phone at bilstein said nothing bout the 5100's.. I think the only difference is that you can't adjust HD's, but I don't need that feature...?

i was also meaning what the difference between the 5100's and the HD are? some say 5100's are only for lifted applications, others dont??

My experience with the HDs on my SUV is that they provide a little bit more of a stiffer ride compared to stock, others have reported the same. I did put lift springs on as well which are supposed to be stiffer as well, so it could be that there won't be much of a difference.

well that doesnt seem to make sense because people have always said that the bilsteins have made their ride totally better and I wouldnt think stiffer would be something they would b getting excited about. so would the 5100's give a softer ride? I just want the best ride possible with my AT's and cranked t bars ad everyone has always said the bilsteins were the best for that n are a world of difference. so which shock would that be, HD, 5100's for stock height, ???.

I'll clear this one up...lol!! My 06 Level II came STOCK with the bilstein 5100's, My truck was lifted but not by suspension......BL, Tbar crank and 33's. They rode AWSOME off road and on road...BUT by truck also weighed alot more than a 2wd reg cab....bilstien also makes a 7400 which i do believe is the heavy duty shock. the 7400's may be a lil stiff on your truck because of the lesser weight than the shocks are intended for.....Thats why i and STL were suggesting the 5100's...they're not AS HD as the 7400's and would provide a softer ride for your 2wd.
