Desperate/Help I Need Help With Coil Wires
My head hurts. I have no idea what I'm doing. I've looked online for the last two hours for an answer and not any closer. I ended removing the spark plugs on my 2007 2.3 Ford Ranger XL as I'm getting a P0304 code. My Ranger is misfiring. I removed the wires/spark plug boot for a compression test. I'm happy to say that I have good compression. Now here's my problem.... I'm an idiot and didn't snap a picture to see what/where the spark plug wires go to what cylinder. Ugh!!!
I believe the cylinders go from 1-4 with 1 in the front and 4 in the back. I have numbers (1-4) on my ignition coil. Do those numbers on the coil represent the cylinder number? I tried that and the misfire seemed worse. I believe the firing order is 1-3-4-2. I tried wire coil #1 to cylinder one, coil #2 on cylinder 3, coil #3 on cylinder 4, and coil #4 on cylinder 2 thinking that maybe the numbers on the coil had to follow the firing order with the cylinders. That was 100% wrong.
Can someone please explain to me what I need to do figure out where the spark plug wires from the ignition coil goes to what cylinder? I just don't get it.
Thanks so much for any help. I'd like to get it to idle back to normal just enough where I can drive it a few miles down the road with the minor misfire that it has. Thanks!!!
