Default Compressor Clutch

Having trouble with my AC and I think the clutch is locked up. It worked for a day or 2 this summer and blew good and cold. Checked the pressure of the coolant and it was dead on. Now when you hit the AC button in the truck you hear a click but the clutch never engages. Was gonnna send it to someone to change out the entire compressor unit but thought I would try and change the clutch in it myself first to save some money. Any help would be appreciated. It's a 93 ranger with the 2.9 motor. Thanks.

Default Re: Compressor Clutch

Hmmm. I have a 1990 ranger when I first got it and I hit the ac on button the compressor clutch would locked up. I thought the clutch was gone. I bought a refurbished one for $60 online but never got a chance to replace it so I was like what the heck I bought freon and loaded it up into the one it had and the clutch compressor began turning as well as the clutch engaging. Now I also bought a 97 expedition and when I hit the ac on the clutch wouldn't engage again I bought some freon loaded it up and viola it works fine. Maybe u had a freon leak or just don't have enough freon because for ac compressor clutch to turn on it requires a certain amount of freon pressure So buy a $20 can of freon and load it up or on either the low or high ac port grab a screwdriver and carefully press down on the valve if you see white air coming out at a good pressure the. U have freon if u press it and only air comes out u have no freon.
