Default 86 ranger 2,3 motor

i just baught this truck, and it has the 2.3 motor, it is having some trouble staying running, i took the hose off of the brake booster and it revs up and runs fine but its at to high of an idle, and i put it back on and it bogs down and runs like crap, i dont know a whole lot about these little motors but im wondering if it could have to do with the egr or any other vacum type problems or something, or is there any common problems with these motors?, any help would be great

thanks, jake!

Check the air filter? There's a throttle set screw on the throttle body turn that in and it will open the throttle more to allow more air in u can adjust your idle rpm that way also check your timing
