Default Gas Milage

I was thinking of picking up a used ranger 98-2000. Looking to find out was a 2WD with a 4cyl or a 3.0 get. Seems to be quite a few 5 speed manuals listed. To clarify I am asking about non towing gas mileage.

I have a f150 for heavy towing but how big of a trailer can either of these motors pull? The trailer I would pull with the ranger would be under 1500lbs and close to 1000-1200 lbs.

i have a 99 3.0 single cab 2wd and i tow 2400 lb boat. It's a little sketchy, acceleration is poor and braking isn't too good.
