Default Highway Robbery

A friend of mine went to the local Ford Dealer for a $20 tire rotation on his 2016 F150. They pointed out that the truck had two serpentine belts and the belt that drives the alternator and water pump had a split in it, and it did. He just told them to replace both belts and do the rotation........didn't ask the price. $309 out the door including a nonsense $12 shop supplies fee. $138 labor to replace 2 belts is robbery.

Realistically that’s an easy enough job to do on your own, $309 doesn’t sound like too much.. maybe look into leasing where you won’t have wild maintenance costs

I don't know what the flat rate manual lists the labor as but it's a 1/2 hour job.

Absolutely, I imagine most shops would charge $150-$175.

That makes the belts cost $139.00, sounds about right.

Minusing the parts cost, what the friend paid isn't OffPoint at all...

Life lesson: shop and consider doing yourself.

We all know what dealerships charge. Everyone of us has been through it at one time or another. Of course they are high, as in every business they are trying to make money too. If you take you vehicle in to the dealership service department for service, you did it because of 2 reasons.
You dont want to do it yourself or you don't know how to do it yourself. Whatever the case, your decision to take in so stop complaining when you find out you paid 25 bucks for them to change a tail light bulb.
