Hello, I own a 1997 2.3l 5speed and it had ac but it was removed by previous owners. I recently started having a coolant leak, right inside the firewall on the passenger side coming from an exposed pipe that sticks about an inch out of the firewall. it seems to only leak when i have the heat going. Is this possible signs of a failing heater core? is this perhaps some sort of weep hole to let me know it’s about to go? I’m just a little concerned due to the fact that it’s starting to get cold up here in the NW and I’m going to need my heat! Just wanted some clarification so i figured i’d post here. Thank you!!

If it is on the engine side, it could just be a leaky connector. But even if it is a failing heater core, being a '97, it should be a relatively straight forward swap. The same job on my '98 Ranger was a real bitch
