Well with the 2.3 you'll want to check and see if the timing belt has been replaced recently, if not you will probably want to replace it. The 3.0 and 4.0 have timing chains so you won't have to worry about those. Not sure what year the 3.0 switched to DIS but I know with the Taurus it was 1996. They have problems with the camshaft sensor and/or synchronizer. That turns your oil pump and if that isn't turning the engine could seize due to no oil circulation.
