Default Screeching when steering wheel is turned??

Hello, I am new here. I just bought a 99 Ford Ranger XLT, 3.0, v6, 105k miles, about 2 weeks ago. When i first got it, everything ran smooth, but there was one thing wrong that we noticed. whenever you turn the steering wheel, it makes like a loud screeching sound and all. so we filled up the power steering fluid, and a week later it still does the sound.....after driving for awhile it goes away but when you do big turns, it comes back. What could it be? I was thinkin of buying a new power steering unit and pump, but i dont want to waste my money just yet, and it not be that. So any other suggestions?
Thank you for reading.

You're supposed to use ATF for your power steering pump. I have also heard there's a Lucas additive that's helps quiet it down.

ATF = Auto Trans Fluid. Yes that's right - for your power steering pump.
