2.3 duratec with 4.88 gears
So there's 2 8.8 rear ends im looking at right now to swap my stock axle with. Currently I have a 7.5 open diff with 4.10s running 32s. First axle is an 8.8 with a full time locker at 4.10# and the other is an 8.8 with 4.88s and a l/s. Im planning on bumping up to 33s and wanna know if 4.88 is too much on the highway. I mainly just want to upgrade from my open diff to a l/s. A locker sounds nice but im driving from California to Virginia next year and don't wanna risk that. Also if 4.88s and 33s keep the rpms too high I also don't wanna risk it.
Reason I ask is because all the searching I saw was with people with 3 or 4 liters and they make significantly more power than my 2.3 so maybe the 4.88s would be ok? Any input would be great, thanks
